Long-hair layered cut, dog-friendly salon in Gwanggyo, Suwon

I hadn't changed up my look in a while, and once again I wanted to keep my long hair while adding natural layers around the face, so while looking into hair salons in Gwanggyo I ended up getting a layered cut at Yuwolae Mijangwon.

The moment I walked in, the whole salon felt clean and well put together. I liked that it had a calm, orderly feel to it rather than the chaotic, busy vibe some salons have — the interior was so tidy, which I really appreciated!

Is this view real?? There's a lounge area where you can sit and rest with a view of Gwanggyo Lake Park, which gives the place a bit of a café feel too.

A dog-friendly salon

I also loved that Yuwolae Mijangwon is a dog-friendly salon. If you have a dog, it's always a bit stressful leaving them home alone while you spend hours at the salon. But since dogs are welcome here, you can actually bring your pup along, which is great. And on top of that, there was a super cute resident dog in the shop too. If you're like me and love going places with your dog, this dog-friendly Gwanggyo salon is worth keeping in mind~

What kind of layered cut I asked for

Before the cut, they shampooed my hair first. Once I sat down, I told the designer what style I wanted: a layered cut with no bangs, trimming just a little off the length, with layers starting naturally from the jawline!

I didn't want a layered cut in the sense of chopping in a ton of layers — I wanted just enough that my hair would fall naturally when let down, with some volume and movement around the sides of my face. My designer, Lala, really understood exactly what I wanted and kept up easy small talk throughout, so the whole cut felt completely comfortable.

Even with the same basic style, a layered cut can look quite different depending on where the layers start! So I explained in as much detail as I could how I normally wear my hair and the look I wanted. In particular, since I didn't want to create new bangs, I asked them to keep my current no-bangs style while blending it naturally into the sides.

What changed after the cut for thick, long hair

After the cut, my hair definitely felt much lighter. My hair is super thick, so washing and drying it always takes forever, ugh. But the length wasn't drastically shorter, so the long-hair look I wanted stayed intact, and with layers around my face the overall look became so much more polished! Especially from the front, the way my hair falls naturally around my face — I loved it so, so much.

Usually when I just leave my long hair down it can look a little flat, but after the layered cut my hair actually has movement now, so even just letting it down looks so much prettier. Even with a quick blow-dry, the layers seem to come alive naturally, so I don't think day-to-day styling will be too hard. And the stylist kindly walked me through exactly how to blow-dry and use the flat iron to make it look nice, so even someone with clumsy hands like me should be able to pull it off, hehe.

Want to keep your long hair but still change things up?

If you're like me and don't want to give up your long hair but still want a change, I'd recommend a layered cut! Even without cutting off much length, how the layers are placed can completely change the overall vibe, so it's especially well suited to anyone who wants to keep their hair length but still shake things up.

This time I didn't cut off much length and just got the layered cut, but my hair became so much lighter and my whole look changed for the better.

Even for a cut-only visit, they start with a shampoo formulated to protect the hair. They carry a range of other hair care products too, but the essence they applied for styling after the cut — which really brought out the texture — had the most amazing scent!

Ta-da~ I always used to stick to pretty much the same style, but this time I went for a light layered cut just for a change of pace. If you like the no-bangs long hair look, this kind of natural layered cut seems like it would be pretty easy to wear every day too. Changing up my hairstyle after so long really reminded me that nothing beats a new hairdo for a mood reset, haha.
