Suwon Korean restaurant for gopchang seonji soup at Eolkeunhan

I finally watched Odyssey in IMAX at Gwanggyo. It was as fun as everyone said, and the three hours seemed to fly by. I even skipped popcorn because I wanted a delicious lunch.

As soon as the movie ended, we rushed over to Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch, a popular haejangguk (Korean hangover soup) spot in Ingye-dong, for lunch and a little recovery meal. Ingye-dong is close—just 10 minutes from Gwanggyo! After eating lots of flour-based food on Saturday, I was craving a hot broth, rice, and Korean food for Sunday lunch.

Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is open 24 hours, so it is great when you suddenly want a late-night meal, or feel like stopping by at dawn, early in the morning, whenever. Just note that it closes at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and opens at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays.

There is underground parking, and they cover two hours for free. Parking in Ingye-dong is tough, so having such a well-set-up parking lot here is a win!

A spacious restaurant with private rooms and tables

The restaurant is spacious and has separate rooms, so you can have a private meal. The rooms were popular that day too. There are plenty of tables, so it seems fine for dining alone as well.

Two kinds of haejangguk at the regular spice level

We debated getting the pork bone jeongol (hot pot), but chose different dishes instead: ugeoji pork bone haejangguk and gopchang seonji haejangguk. You can adjust the heat across four levels—mild, regular, spicy, and extra spicy. Since it was our first visit, we ordered both at the regular level. You can order through the table-order system at your table.

Looking at this, I wondered whether one of us should have tried the spicy level. Spicy haejangguk sounds delicious too, haha. I will take on the heat next time!

Pickled onions and kkakdugi side dishes

The basic sides were pickled onions and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and wow, this place knows its banchan (Korean side dishes)!! I ate all the pickled onions myself. If the kimchi is good, the restaurant is good. The kkakdugi was not overly sweet and was just right with the haejangguk.

Our gopchang seonji haejangguk and ugeoji pork bone haejangguk arrived. They happened to serve us bowls filled with freshly made, fluffy rice.

The gopchang seonji haejangguk was delicious because the rich flavor of the gopchang (beef intestines) had melted into the broth. The combination of ugeoji (seasoned napa cabbage greens), bean sprouts, gopchang, and seonji (congealed ox blood) was harmonious. This seonji haejangguk was perfect for polishing off a whole bowl of rice.

Ugeoji pork bone haejangguk with plenty of meat

They loaded it up with ugeoji and bones, making for a seriously full bowl of pork bone haejangguk. There was so much meat that even after splitting half with my boyfriend, I was full. The broth was rich and tasty, and as a broth lover, I finished every last drop.

I had not drunk that much the night before, but it still felt like a proper reset, and my stomach felt comfortable rather than heavy. Do Koreans really need Korean food after all?

After-meal ice cream and takeout service

After your meal, ice cream is offered free as dessert. With a haejangguk order, each person can have one; with a jeongol order, you can have two for a small, three for a medium, and four for a large. I love this kind of service~~

They accept Suwon Pay, and with such generous portions, this feels like an excellent-value meal spot in Ingye-dong. Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch was a great haejangguk spot in Ingye-dong, with thoughtful service right through to the dental floss and candy.

Everything on the menu is available for takeout. For uncooked takeout, you get one extra bone instead of a bowl of rice; for cooked takeout, rice is provided for an additional ₩1,000. It is a more-than-worthy meal spot in Ingye-dong, so I should visit from time to time whenever I crave haejangguk.
