Hanpanjip Changwon Gaeum Branch's pork platter, the main dish

I went to Hanpanjip Changwon Gaeum Branch, inside Gaeumjeong Market in Changwon. Today's order was the 39,900 won pork platter (hanpan so). I added minari (water dropwort) for 2,000 won, and ended up going for doenjang sul-bap (soybean paste rice) at 6,000 won too. They grill the meat for you, and I even got a 2-hour free parking voucher for using the Gaeumjeong Market public parking lot. Let's follow along with the photos as usual.

First stop: Gaeumjeong Market in Changwon

Street view of Gaeumjeong Market in Changwon

I've come to Gaeumjeong Market a lot. There's surprisingly plenty to eat here — fish soup noodles, sweet and spicy fried chicken, dumplings. You can honestly do round one, two, and three all in this one spot. Today's round one duty falls to a BBQ restaurant.

Arrived at today's BBQ spot, Hanpanjip. There were two tables outside too, and they were full when I got there.

Inside Hanpanjip Changwon Gaeum Branch

I visited on a Saturday evening. Inside there were 7 tables, and every single one was full when I arrived. Soju and beer bottles everywhere — I guess meat really does call for a drink.

I'll leave the menu board photos here in full. Today's order was just three things.

  • Hanpan So (pork platter): ₩39,900
  • Minari add-on: ₩2,000
  • Doenjang sul-bap: ₩6,000

Let's start with the platter first.

Side dishes and the six sauces

Hanpanjip's side dishes are dressed lettuce, seasoned radish, and green onion kimchi. And there are quite a lot of sauces for dipping the meat and pork skin — ssamjang (thick soybean-chili paste), garlic salt, curry powder, teriyaki sauce, breadcrumbs, and sesame sauce, six in total. Personally, the garlic salt was excellent here — savory, like salt fried in garlic oil. I tried dipping in the breadcrumbs too, which felt like eating a snack, so that was fun as well.

Of the six sauces, this old man's pick is the garlic salt.

The staff grill the pork for you

At Hanpanjip, the staff grill the meat themselves. No need for me to pick up the tongs. After bringing it over, they explained the cuts and told me it was slightly underdone on purpose, so I could grill it further to my taste.

The 39,900 won pork platter arrives

The pork platter has arrived. Gorgeous. Best of all, I don't have to grill it myself. Sizzling meat is definitely more impressive in video than photos.

Let's look at the platter again. Ugh, I want to eat it again already.

Platter with pork belly, neck, skin, and minari on top

From front to back: pork belly, pork neck, and pork skin. Minari, white kimchi, and bean sprouts come along too. The composition is fantastic. I've taken enough photos, so let's eat.

Table setting at Hanpanjip right before eating

Okay, I've taken plenty of photos now, so let's dig in.

How this old man builds a bite

The first bite has to be the garlic salt I liked earlier — no question.

I also tried the pork skin dipped in sesame sauce, teriyaki sauce, and breadcrumbs. Dipping it in breadcrumbs was actually a first for me. After the pork skin, back to the meat.

From here on I mixed things up — piling on side dishes, eating with minari too. When you've got a whole platter in front of you, you might as well try it every which way.

Finishing with 6,000 won doenjang sul-bap

Hanpanjip's doenjang sul-bap, priced at ₩6,000

My girlfriend is obsessed with doenjang sul-bap. So we ended up adding it for 6,000 won. It was packed with meat. Perfect for the end after finishing all the grilled pork, and also great as a soju pairing. I'm full, but my spoon still hasn't clocked out.

A free drink and a parking voucher on the way out

I thought that was really the end, but on the way out, even the drinks were free. Plum tea and coffee were set out. Are they even trying to make money, haha. And as we left, we got the 2-hour free parking voucher for the public lot too. Park your car, eat here, then take a stroll around Gaeumjeong Market or the nearby rose park next door — not a bad plan.

Onion Ajae's verdict on Hanpanjip

This is Hanpanjip, where I had a pork platter feast at Gaeumjeong Market. The pork platter comes with belly, neck, and skin together, and since they grill it for you, it was an easy, comfortable meal. The six kinds of sauces stuck with me too — garlic salt was my favorite of the bunch. Between the meat and the doenjang sul-bap at the end, this evening was properly wrapped up. I even walked out with a 2-hour free parking voucher and a free drink on the way out.

Final photo wrapping up the visit to Hanpanjip Changwon Gaeum Branch

Tongs down for once, platter finished — this old man's pick is the garlic salt.

Ate well again today. One more Gaeumjeong Market food spot logged.
