I was craving smoky, delicious pork again, so today I'm introducing a Changwon Gaeumjeong spot: Hanpanjip Changwon Gaeum Branch. I love eating meat, but grilling it yourself at the table often means your clothes end up smelling and oil splatters everywhere — annoying, right? Here, the meat comes out fully grilled and neatly piled on a platter, so all you have to do is eat. It's a really appealing Changwon pork restaurant. Since it's located inside Gaeumjeong Market, it's a great stop while grocery shopping, and it's also perfect for family dinners or work get-togethers — a true Gaeumjeong Market restaurant.
What Hanpanjip Changwon Gaeum Branch looks like, and how ordering works
Hanpanjip Changwon Gaeum Branch has a homey yet clean pocha (street-food tent bar) feel, with round tables throughout. Every table has a chair with built-in storage for your belongings, so I could stash my coat and bag without worrying about them absorbing the smell of meat — a really pleasant setup.
Each table also has a tablet ordering device, which was really convenient — you can check menu photos and prices and order directly. There was also a Naver photo review QR code posted on one side of the restaurant — write a review and you get a free pork doenjang jjigae, cheese kimchi fried rice, or a drink/alcohol of your choice. Definitely worth grabbing if you visit!

Banchan side dishes and Hanpanjip's 6 house sauces
As soon as we finished ordering, the neat basic side dishes were set right away. Fresh lettuce, peppers, and whole garlic, plus lettuce salad and myeongi namul (mountain garlic leaf) that pair perfectly with meat, and even a savory dried radish salad — all of it really got the appetite going. What stood out most, though, was the tray of 6 signature sauces that's basically Hanpanjip's trademark.

- Ssamjang: the classic of classics, clean flavor
- Garlic salt: salt with a sharp garlic aroma
- Curry powder: a savory, subtly fragrant specialty
- Teriyaki sauce: sweet-salty charm
- Breadcrumbs: an unusual combo that adds a crispy texture
- Sesame sauce: the peak of nuttiness
With such a variety on hand, every bite of meat could be a new combination — never boring, always different.
The complimentary steamed egg
While waiting for the meat to arrive, a steaming hot earthenware bowl of steamed egg came out first. Sprinkled with sesame seeds, it was as soft and moist as pudding — perfect for warming up your stomach before diving into the meat. It wasn't salty at all, just clean and mild, so I think kids would enjoy it too.

The minari platter of pork belly and pork neck, grilled in the kitchen
Finally, the main event arrived — the pork platter! Since it comes fully grilled from the kitchen, the moment the pan hits the table you can start eating right away — genuinely the biggest advantage here.
On the round iron plate, golden-brown pork belly, pork neck, and chewy pork skin were piled generously, surrounded by fragrant fresh minari, crunchy bean sprout salad, and well-fermented aged kimchi, all grilled together.
- Pork belly: crispy outside, bursting with juice inside. Best wrapped in myeongi namul with a touch of wasabi or garlic salt.
- Pork neck: never dry, moist and savory the more you chew.
- Pork skin: chewy texture — dip it in curry powder or breadcrumbs, and there's nothing better as a drinking snack.
- Minari and aged kimchi: the minari's aroma from being grilled in the meat's fat, plus the tangy aged kimchi, cut through the richness perfectly — I couldn't stop eating.

Finishing with the pork-loaded doenjang jjigae
After eating a fair amount of meat, we ordered doenjang jjigae to close out the meal. It came bubbling in a large earthenware pot, and the moment I took a sip, the deep, savory flavor of house-made doenjang spread through my mouth.
Inside were tofu, zucchini, green onion, and chili, plus plenty of meat, making the broth rich and spicy. After eating rich, fatty meat, mixing this with a bowl of rice like a stew was the cleanest way to finish. It was also the perfect pairing with a cold beer or soju.

Is Hanpanjip Changwon Gaeum Branch worth a visit?
At Hanpanjip Changwon Gaeum Branch, I got to enjoy perfectly grilled meat without any of the hassle of grilling it myself, which made the meal very satisfying. At a reasonable price, with a varied sauce lineup, the combo of minari and kimchi, and a comforting doenjang jjigae to finish — nothing was missing.
If you're craving a delicious platter of pork with a nice drink, or looking for a comfortable, pleasant place to eat out, I recommend this place!
