Looking for a good-vibe spot on Dongseong-ro in Daegu, I ended up at Palette Hannam Daegu Dongseong-ro Branch.
This time I ordered: 🍝 Perilla oil beef tartare pasta 🍳 Palette omurice
I was curious about something a bit different from the usual cream or tomato pasta, and I'd also heard the omurice is Palette Hannam's signature dish, so I ordered both to try together.
Bottom line up front: the pasta and omurice go in totally different flavor directions, which made them a great combo to split between two people. If you're looking for a date spot on Dongseong-ro, or a good-atmosphere Western restaurant near Jungangno or Banwoldang, this one's worth considering :)

Up to the 2nd floor we go 💨

What is the 2nd-floor dining room like, and is it good for a date?
The interior of Palette Hannam Daegu Dongseong-ro Branch is bright and cute, more comfortable and relaxed than heavy or formal — a nice place to just eat without pressure. 👯✨

So it seemed like a good pick not just for meeting friends, but also for a Dongseong-ro date or blind date where the atmosphere matters as much as the food. 👩🏻❤️👨🏻🩷

The menu wasn't just pasta — there were also plenty of options for pizza, salad, rice, gnocchi, and steak.

They're also running a Naver review event and an Instagram event! 🍹
Perilla oil beef tartare pasta: a surprisingly good pairing

The dish I was most curious about that day was the perilla oil beef tartare pasta! Even the name is a bit unusual, haha. 'Perilla oil + beef tartare + pasta' — at first I thought the flavors might not go together at all, but eating it, the combo was surprisingly natural. You get the nutty aroma of perilla oil first, then the soft texture of the beef tartare blending with the pasta noodles.

Unlike a typical warm pasta, this one's served cold, so the first bite feels a little different — but that's exactly what makes it light and easy to eat. Once the sauce is well mixed through the noodles and eaten with the beef tartare, the flavor becomes nutty with a nice savory depth. If the perilla oil were the only strong flavor it might get greasy, but overall it felt fresh, so it wasn't as heavy as I expected. If you like beef tartare, this is a dish you'll especially enjoy.

Crack the egg on top 🥚 A cold pasta style where the nuttiness of perilla oil meets the beef tartare! The tangy touch and chewy noodles worked really well together :)!

I ordered this out of curiosity after eating the same old pasta menus over and over — verdict: totally satisfied!

Can you see the glossy shine? Haha 👀
Palette omurice: the curry-cream sauce that catches your eye first

And then, the Palette omurice ordered alongside it! Palette Hannam is famous enough for its omurice that plenty of people think of this dish first when they hear the name. The fluffy egg piled on top of the rice, plus the sauce, made for a mouthwatering visual straight away.
You gotta cut it nice and slow, you know 🔪 haha, so aesthetic

It's a bit different from a typical ketchup-topped omurice. Palette Hannam's version pairs a curry-style sauce with a creamy sauce, so when you get the egg, rice, and sauce together in one bite, you get layers of flavor.

The egg was soft and moist, going well with the rice, and as the sauce naturally mixed into the rice, the whole thing had a smooth, easy-to-eat quality. If the perilla oil beef tartare pasta leans nutty and fresh, the Palette omurice is on the softer, richer side in comparison 🫠🩷

Do the tartare pasta and omurice work as one order for two?
Ordering the perilla oil beef tartare pasta and the Palette omurice together meant we could go back and forth between two very different flavors, which made the meal even better.

To finish, a Pepsi Zero to cleanse the palate~!
Another good meal today 🙇🏻♀️🩷
