Back in Bonghwang-dong, Gimhae, after a while! My friend and I went to Sushi Hwa for some Bongridan-gil sushi. Between the flame-seared sushi, raw sushi, and tasty sides — all fresh and varied — this is a place I really want to recommend. Let me introduce Sushi Hwa!
Sushi Hwa hours and where to park on Bongridan-gil
Sushi Hwa is open daily from 10:00 to 21:00, with last order at 20:40. It's located at 32 Gimhae-daero 2315beon-gil, 1st floor, Gimhae-si, Gyeongsangnam-do — right in the middle of Bongridan-gil.
For parking, the Bongridan-gil public parking lot is convenient. When I visited it was full, so I used a nearby alley instead!
Inside Sushi Hwa: seating and layout
Sushi Hwa, a sushi restaurant on sunny Bongridan-gil! The wood tables give the space a calm feel. I liked that there was a range of seating, from long communal tables to two-person tables. Being right in the middle of Bongridan-gil in Gimhae, it's also really easy to get to.
A tablet ordering machine sits at every table. You choose your menu and pay all in one go, right there. I personally love this kind of self-order machine! No need to call a staff member every time, and you can take your time browsing the menu.

Here comes the beautifully colored mixed sushi! You can choose between soba and udon, and since it was hot out, I went with soba. What surprised me was that it arrived maybe five minutes after ordering — really fast! The chef's quick hands... I was impressed! This is a Bongridan-gil sushi spot I'd recommend to anyone who's hungry or in a rush and needs to eat quickly.
What's in the 10-piece mixed raw sushi set
I'm honestly not a huge seafood or raw fish person, but I really love sushi and eat it happily! This 10-piece mixed sushi is perfect for ordering without any pressure, when you want to try a bit of everything. Shrimp sushi, raw shrimp sushi, white fish sushi, scallop sushi, salmon sushi, soy-marinated shrimp sushi, squid sushi, fried tofu sushi, egg sushi (tamago) — a mixed sushi plate packed full of delicious varieties!

Do I even need to say anything about that gorgeous salmon sushi? My friend loves salmon in particular, so we ordered it, and she ate it up happily! A perfect menu for anyone who's a self-proclaimed salmon killer. There are also single-type sushi options like tuna sushi, shrimp sushi, salmon belly sushi, egg sushi, and grilled red shrimp sushi, so you can pick based on your taste.
There's no wasabi already inside the sushi. You add as much as you like yourself.
You can really feel the freshness in this sushi — I tried the raw sushi first, working through in order. The cuts of fish were thick and generously sized. The texture in the mouth was really good too! Freshness is the whole point of sushi, and this Bongridan-gil spot, Sushi Hwa, really delivers on that, don't you think?
How much cold soba comes with the set
Cold soba with bits of ice floating in it — an essential summer dish. It came as a side, but the portion wasn't small at all. Personally I was already full from all the sushi, so I couldn't eat much of the soba. That's how generous the overall portions are. Even an adult man could leave this place stuffed!
Is Sushi Hwa worth it for sushi on Bongridan-gil?
A sushi spot that's not so common on Bongridan-gil. Both the freshness and the taste were solid. If you're looking for a good spot for lunch on Bongridan-gil, a place to eat a hearty, filling meal, I recommend Sushi Hwa, a sushi restaurant on Bongridan-gil!
