Whenever I think of Gijang, I almost always end up at an ocean-view café — Gijang café basically means the sea to me by default. So this was actually my first time visiting a café further inland in Gijang. I like pretty cafés, but I also love the kind of café where you can sit comfortably and chat for a long time, so I was curious what vibe Purity Cafe would have.

First floor: wood tones and vintage props

Once I actually visited, it felt completely different from the wide-open ocean-view vibe you get by the sea. Rather than a café for admiring a dramatic view, it had the kind of atmosphere where you settle in, enjoy brunch, bread and drinks, and chat slowly — and I ended up liking that a lot more than I expected.

Walking inside, I was surprised at how much bigger the space was than I'd imagined. It's split into 1st and 2nd floors, with tables spaced out generously on each level, so it never felt cramped and was easy to settle into.

The overall look is built around wood tones, with vintage furniture, wooden tables, lighting, and green plants and small props tucked in throughout that blend together naturally. Unlike today's overly polished, sleek large cafés, there were lots of pieces that looked like they'd been collected over a long time, which made it genuinely fun to just look around the space.

Even the stairwell was decorated with plants and props, and each area had a slightly different mood. With natural light pouring in through the big windows and mixing with the wooden furniture and greenery, the whole place felt warm and cozy.

Going up to the 2nd floor, the space kept opening up further, with not just table seats but also cushioned sofa seating.

There was a separate group-seating area too, plus spots good for sitting around and chatting with several people, so it seemed like a solid choice for a friend gathering or a family brunch.

I usually like pretty cafés, but what I love most is somewhere I can sit comfortably and talk for a long time — and Purity Cafe was exactly that kind of place. It had a totally different charm from the wide-open sea views, and the warm wood tones, vintage feel and greenery matched my taste so well that I could relax completely.

What I liked most was that in this comfortable atmosphere, you're not just drinking coffee — you can enjoy brunch and bakery items together.

Sitting in a sunlit, spacious room, having a leisurely brunch with a cup of coffee and a good chat — I thought this would be a great brunch café to visit on a day when you want to spend unhurried time in Gijang.

There was a good variety of bakery items too, and even the display area didn't feel like a plain case — wooden tables, dishware and small props were arranged together naturally, giving the space its own Purity Cafe feel. The mont blanc in particular, each one set on its own plate, looked so delicious that my eyes were drawn to it right away.

We ordered the mont blanc and the fig sandwich, plus a dolce latte and a blueberry yogurt smoothie to drink.

We tried the drinks first, and both were better than expected. The dolce latte was sweet with a nutty coffee flavor that paired well with the bread, and the blueberry yogurt smoothie had a tangy-sweet blueberry taste rounded out by creamy yogurt, refreshing to drink cold. They were completely different styles of drinks, but both were delicious, which was satisfying.

Mont blanc: crisp outside, moist inside

And what stuck with me the most that day, personally, was the mont blanc — something I already like anyway.

Even visually, you could see the layered texture, and one bite confirmed it — crisp on the outside, really moist and soft inside. You could feel the layered structure of the pastry, with crispness and moistness at the same time — the texture was genuinely great.

Crisp outside but never dry inside, it was also fun to pull apart layer by layer. It went even better with the dolce latte, and I was glad I picked the mont blanc out of all the bakery options. It suited my taste so well that I'd want to order it again next time I visit.

How the fig sandwich tasted alongside it

We also tried the fig sandwich, and ordering a sweet bakery item like the mont blanc alongside a sandwich made it easy to alternate between the two. Rather than just grabbing a quick drink and leaving, sitting down with bread and a sandwich and chatting slowly made the time at the café feel much more leisurely.

Looking for a Gijang brunch café without the ocean view?

Purity Cafe didn't feel like a place you just stop by for a quick coffee — it felt like a space made for settling in and enjoying brunch, bakery, coffee and drinks all in one place. The space is generous and the seating options varied, so it seemed like it would suit a date for two, a catch-up with friends, or a family brunch equally well.

Until now, I'd mostly sought out sea-view cafés in Gijang, but this time I learned there's a great brunch café tucked further inland too. Watching the ocean is nice, but sometimes it's just as good to sit in a comfortable space like this and take your time over good brunch, bakery and drinks.

Both the dolce latte and the blueberry yogurt smoothie were delicious, and the mont blanc, crisp outside and moist in layers inside, was the most memorable part of the day. Everything from the space to the food was easy to enjoy, making this a place I'd want to revisit if I'm looking for a brunch café in Gijang.
