Whenever my friends and I were trying to figure out what to eat in Wangsimni, this was the place we kept ending up at. Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom! I've been here way more than once or twice — over 5 times with friends haha — so I wanted to properly introduce it as one of my favorite real neighborhood spots in Wangsimni. 🤎 You'll see why below~~

Ten years in Europe, and pork belly is still the craving

I lived in Germany and Italy for 10 years! I ate all kinds of food out there — pasta, pizza, steak, wine — but once I'm back in Korea, the thing I crave most is, weirdly enough, pork belly + kimchi + garlic + lettuce wraps 😂

Pujutgan especially is a great spot to meet friends casually, grill some meat, and have a drink! I love this kind of neighborhood Korean BBQ place the most.

No need for fancy interiors — as long as the meat's good, portions are generous, and the staff are kind, that's all it takes haha

There's a big window wall that opens up wide, so it even has an outdoor-tent-dining vibe!!!!

What we ordered: 2 servings of raw pork belly and gangyebap

What we ordered that day was

• 🍳 Gyegaebap (egg rice)
• 🍲 Doenjang stew (free)
• 🍜 Mul-naengmyeon (free)

Thick raw pork belly grilled on a cauldron lid, with kimchi, garlic, and onion all grilling alongside — the visual alone already wins the game haha

And another plus here — the staff grill the meat for you!

When you're chatting with friends, you sometimes miss the perfect grilling moment, but here they take care of it perfectly for you, which is so convenient.

Take a bite of golden-brown pork belly with a piece of grilled kimchi and some garlic on top. Ah... this is Korea 🇰🇷 haha

Wrap vegetables and side dishes at Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom

Lettuce, perilla leaves, peppers — plenty of wrap vegetables come out too!

Seasoned lettuce, myeongyi namul (wild garlic leaves), pickled radish, salt, ssamjang — everything you need comes out, great 👍 When I eat pork belly, instead of just eating meat on its own, I prefer lettuce + perilla leaf + pork belly + ssamjang

I like starting with that classic combo and then mixing it up into different wraps, so I'm a fan of BBQ places with generous wrap vegetables. 🌿

Free doenjang stew, naengmyeon, noodles and nurungji

Doenjang stew (kimchi stew also possible), naengmyeon (water or spicy), noodles, and nurungji (scorched rice) are all free!!! Does that even make sense haha

But there's a catch — order meat according to your headcount, and the side dishes come free! You eat meat, then doenjang stew, then naengmyeon, then noodles, and finish with nurungji... where else does this happen haha And the portions are huge too haha

This is the size of the free side portion haha the owner's generosity is unreal!!!!!!!!! Even more impressive given how prices are these days.

Gangyebap: the dish ordered on every visit

And the thing I always order when I come here is gyegaebap (egg rice) 🍳

Eating a spoonful of rice alongside the meat is so good. It's not a flashy dish, but somehow gyegaebap at a BBQ place is just so delicious haha

Pop the egg yolk and mix it into the rice, and even after all that meat, your hand keeps reaching for more.

Corkage-free: the night we brought whisky

This was from an earlier visit — my friends and I brought whiskey!!!!

Since it's corkage-free, there's no pressure, and let's just say we ended up eating even more meat because of it haha

Why Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom is worth a fifth visit

Honestly, the reason I keep coming back isn't just the price or the free sides. The meat is good, the food is generous, the staff are kind, and above all, the atmosphere is one you can relax in.

"Hey, should we just go to Pujutgan?"

That's how naturally we end up here. To me, that's what a real neighborhood favorite feels like. After living in Europe for 10 years, I've been to plenty of Seoul's famous hot spots too, but in the end, the place I keep coming back to with friends is this kind of genuine neighborhood BBQ spot. 🥹
