Suwon bakery café by Changnyongmun Gate for egg tarts: Caffeine Focus
In short
Caffeine Focus is a stand-alone bakery café spread over three floors right in front of Changnyongmun Gate on the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress wall in Suwon, Gyeonggi. From a seat on the 3rd-floor outdoor terrace, I had cheese olive ciabatta, an einspänner and an egg tart, and the owner packed the leftover bread in cute wrapping paper. Caffeine Focus stays quiet rather than crowded, making it a hideout-like stop for a break during a Hwaseong Fortress walk.

The Hwaseong Fortress wall right outside the café window
I was near Hwaseong Fortress and found a café with a gorgeous fortress view, so I stopped by ☕️ This is Caffeine Focus! There are so many pretty cafés around Hwaseong Fortress, but this one has the fortress wall close enough that you can sip coffee while looking at it right out the window.

It felt less like a busy famous café and more like a quiet hideout I wanted to keep to myself 🤍 The café spans 1st through 3rd floors, so the space was bigger than I expected.

Three floors, three moods — why I chose the 3rd floor
Each floor has a slightly different atmosphere, so it's fun looking around for a seat, and it's comfortable to just sit and rest.
Best of all, being so close to Hwaseong Fortress, the view of the wall through the window is really the charm! It was perfect to duck in for a coffee break while exploring the fortress.
It's a standalone three-story café right in front of Hwaseong Fortress, where you can enjoy a different mood on each floor and the fortress view is the highlight. Both the 1st and 3rd floors have outdoor terrace seating, great for nice weather. I picked the 3rd floor today^^

The three things I ordered at Caffeine Focus
☕ Menu

I picked cheese olive ciabatta, an einspänner, and an egg tart 🤍

Cheese olive ciabatta
Ciabatta first!

The plain, chewy bread with the savory cheese and salty olives went really well with coffee.
Cheese lovers especially would enjoy this combo haha. It also worked fine as a simple brunch.

Einspänner
And my favorite, the einspänner ☕️ Topped with soft cream, it was nice and sweet, and it paired perfectly with the coffee's bitterness. Alternating bites with the ciabatta and I had drained my coffee in no time lol.
Egg tart

I also picked an egg tart. Plain on the outside, soft and savory inside — went great with the einspänner.
I'm someone who can't just leave a café with only a drink 🙋🏻♀️ One bread, one dessert later, it turned into a proper full café session haha.
My favourite spot: the 3rd-floor outdoor terrace
And what I liked best was the outdoor seating! On a nice day, sitting outside with a coffee and taking your time is amazing. The breeze was gentle and the surroundings quiet, so just sitting there felt healing 🌿 Resting comfortably inside the café is nice too, but stepping outside for a bit to feel the sun while drinking coffee really made it feel like a trip haha. Stepping away from the busy daily grind for a moment — I really loved the outdoor seats for that.

The 3rd floor even has water, tissues, and a restroom, which was so nice!
This counts as a hideout I want to keep to myself, right? I loved it!!

Walking around Hwaseong Fortress, then having coffee at the café while looking out at the view — it just made me feel relaxed. There are so many pretty cafés these days, but ones where you can also enjoy the surrounding scenery like this stick in your memory a bit more 😁

Taking leftover bread home, and the owner of Caffeine Focus
I had some bread left over so I asked for it to be packed up, and even the wrapping paper was so cute haha. Attention to those little details just makes me happy :) The owner was also kind and seemed to put care into every single item, which I liked even more. The ciabatta was tasty and the desserts were solid, so next time I'd like to try the other breads one by one! There are lots of pretty cafés these days, but this one isn't just pretty — the food is good and the time spent there is comfortable, which made me like it even more. Bookmarking this as my personal hideout café haha.

Whenever I find a café like this, I get this urge to keep it to myself lol, so I'm bookmarking this as my own hideout café 🤍 If you're looking for a relaxed spot near Hwaseong Fortress with a fortress view and coffee, I recommend Caffeine Focus ☕️ It's a great place to sightsee Hwaseong Fortress, enjoy good bread and coffee, and rest quietly. I'm 100% coming back!
