Wondang rooftop no-kids zone café in Goyang: fresh fig cake, Baedagol

After a delicious sushi lunch, I had some time before picking up my kid, and going straight home felt like a waste — luckily a café I'd been eyeing for ages was right nearby. It's known for its bakery, but also famous for its gorgeous outdoor landscaping — this is my review of Baedagol Bakery House (배다골베이커리하우스), a café in Wondang, Goyang.

The moment I arrived, a huge stone sign right at the entrance made it impossible to miss.

There's Lot 1 inside the property and Lots 2 and 3 across the street outside, so if you're driving there's zero parking stress — a real plus.

The outdoor garden and the sand play area for kids

Walking in after parking, seeing the landscaping I'd only seen in photos in person was so atmospheric and full of charm.

With the cool weather these days, I don't think there's a better spot to have coffee outdoors.

Tables are generously placed throughout the greenery, so it'd be great for chatting with family or friends. It was around weekday lunchtime, and I saw quite a few older folks and people bringing their parents — makes sense why it's such a famous Goyang café. I've already made a mental note to come back with my own parents someday.

I thought it was only good for adults, but there's also a sand play zone for kids — so parents can enjoy coffee while the kids play in the sand, a win-win.

1st-floor seats and garden views through the window wall

Inside, the floor-to-ceiling windows give a wide-open feeling that cuts any stuffiness, looking straight out at the garden, while potted plants scattered throughout blend with the modern yet warm wood-tone interior to complete the cozy vibe. There are neat wood group tables seating 6 to 8, comfortable for larger parties, and the spacious layout makes it a great place for gatherings or a chat.

There were plenty of big tables, but also 2-seaters, so it works fine for a couple's date too.

What bread and showcase cakes does Baedagol Bakery House have?

The 1st floor also has the ordering counter for drinks and bread.

While looking around the store, the smell of fresh bread was everywhere. In the display case, from salt bread to sausage bread, pretzels, and sliced bread, all sorts of freshly baked goods were kept clean and tidy — picking was half the fun.

On the other side, the showcase had slice cakes, mascarpone cake, and tiramisu roll cake ready to go. So many options, this bread-lover's eyes were spinning 😗

Looking at each bread, I wanted to try them all but couldn't, and could only blame myself for it, ha. Every single one of the baked goods was laid out so appetizingly and neatly.

For families visiting with kids, milk and juice options are also available.

What especially caught my eye was the current signature seasonal series, 'Fresh Melon Overload' — the fridge was packed with fresh melon, so the melon bingsu (shaved ice), yogurt smoothie, and latte options must be huge hits.

Fan rental and a free bread for a photo review

The scorching heat is gone now that it's cool fall weather, so no need for a fan, but I'd never seen a café lend out fans in the summer heat before — such a thoughtful touch 🙏🏻 Also, writing a Naver photo review gets you one free bread regardless of price, so of course we wrote one and got ours free.

The drink menu is also super varied — coffee, non-coffee, teas, smoothies, and bingsu.

Inside the 2nd floor and its 3 private rooms

While waiting for our order, I went up to check out the 2nd floor — the 4-seat tables were spaced generously, giving a real sense of openness, and the natural light coming in was lovely too.

There are also 3 private rooms, great for gatherings or catching up with friends. Several other guests were already using the rooms.

Why the 2nd-floor rooftop is a no-kids zone

On the 2nd floor there's a door leading out to the rooftop — since it could be dangerous for kids, be sure to note it's a No Kids Zone ‼️

We snuck out to the no-kids zone while our little one, Bokong, wasn't looking, and it had a great vibe too. It'd be perfect for a couple to come sit and enjoy coffee together on a date.

The outdoor garden looked so pretty from above that I spent a while just taking it in. From down below I hadn't noticed, but from up top I could see just how many people were there even on a weekday lunchtime. It's definitely a famous Goyang café, no doubt about it 👊🏻

How the fresh fig cake and salt bread taste

Our drinks and bakery order arrived. The Americano, the strawberry latte, two golden-baked salt breads, and the appetizing fresh fig cream cake — just looking at the spread made me smile.

Figs are in season right now, so I picked this without hesitation — and with big chunks of fresh fig piled on soft whipped cream, the chewy texture and sweetness felt maximized.

Looking at the cross-section, fresh figs were generously packed between the layers of cake too — the soft, fluffy sponge, the nutty cream, and the sweet fig flesh all came together, filling my mouth with rich flavor with every bite.

That little pop of texture with each bite was so fun, and the sweetness was a real highlight.

Since we'd just had lunch, I saved the salt bread for later at home — and its size alone was overwhelming. The signature buttery, savory flavor of salt bread really came through, soft with every bite. Bokong, who loves salt bread, devoured it too 😊

Worth it? A garden café in Wondang, Goyang

Looking out at the lush garden view with sweet desserts and a cup of coffee made for a perfectly relaxing day. It's a great space for kids to enjoy the sand play area and for adults to chat quietly too — if you're in the Wondang area and want to stroll a pretty outdoor garden while enjoying good bread and drinks, I highly recommend Baedagol Bakery House :)
