What kind of restaurant is Jeongjeong-a Sikdang in Jeongwang-dong?
Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch is a Korean restaurant specializing in dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken stew) on the 1st floor of 1730-4 Jeongwang-dong, Siheung. I'd been curious about it for a while since it always seemed to be full of customers, and going in person, I got it — the place was clean and the staff were friendly, so the whole meal felt comfortable.

We came for dinner with the kids, and it already felt like a company dinner spot with off-work employees eating together haha. It's always packed at lunch too — a truly popular restaurant!!
Dakbokkeumtang and set menu prices at Jeongjeong-a Sikdang
The main dish is dakbokkeumtang! Jeongjeong-a's dakbokkeumtang comes in large (₩34,000), medium (₩29,000), and small (₩24,000), plus five set menus.
- Dakbokkeumtang: Large ₩34,000 / Medium ₩29,000 / Small ₩24,000
- Set 1: Cockles + acorn jelly ₩23,000
- Set 2: Cockles + boiled squid ₩23,000
- Set 3: Acorn jelly + boiled squid ₩22,000
- Set 4: Seafood pancake + cockles + jelly noodles ₩30,000
- Set 5: Seafood pancake + cockles + acorn jelly ₩33,000

The tableware is set down in this rough, no-nonsense way haha, it's kind of charming.
The side dishes are super simple — makes sense, since the main dish is what matters here. The dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) broth was refreshing and delicious.

Ordering spice level 1 and set 2 with kids at the table
We ordered the medium dakbokkeumtang (₩29,000) and set menu 2, cockles + boiled squid (₩23,000). Since the spice level is adjustable, we went with level 1 to eat with the kids. I actually wanted a set with seafood pancake + cockles + boiled squid, but that combination doesn't exist as a set, which was a bit of a shame.

Even in the mild version, the dakbokkeumtang came out a vivid, appetizing red that got my mouth watering. There's plenty of broth, and since it's already been pre-cooked, you just bring it to a boil once and it's ready to eat. This really is a lunch spot that understands busy office workers haha.

The chicken pieces were bigger than I expected. The thighs were nice and meaty, and the drumsticks were well soaked in the seasoning — really delicious. The chicken wasn't dry at all, it was tender, so it was great for eating with the kids, and the broth wasn't overly spicy, perfect for mixing with rice.

Why the extra glass noodles in the chicken stew are a must
After eating our fill of chicken, we added glass noodle sarry and simmered it in the plentiful broth — seriously the best part haha. Now I get why Kim Shin-young keeps going on about glass noodles!! Adding glass noodle sarry to dakdoritang really seems essential. The noodles soaked up so much broth flavor that the kids ate them even more eagerly than the chicken. The seasoning was so rich that our chopsticks kept going back for more.
Set menu 2, which we also ordered, was satisfying too. For a group of 3 to 4 adults, I'd recommend the dakbokkeumtang plus set 2 combo.

How the boiled squid and cockles tasted
The boiled squid in set 2 was cooked soft and tender, not chewy at all, and dipped in chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) it worked well both as a drinking snack and as part of the meal. It's not something we make much at home, so it was a nice treat to have.

For me, the cockles were the highlight. It had been so long since I'd had them, since I don't know how to make them at home. The cockle meat was plump and the seasoning was delicious — spooned over rice, it was fantastic. The kids mostly ate the dakbokkeumtang while I basically ate rice with cockles the whole time haha.
Why Jeongjeong-a Sikdang works for a family dinner in Siheung
Having the table filled with all kinds of dishes really gave it that family dining-out feeling, and being able to try a variety of things made it even more satisfying. Above all, I felt that Jeongjeong-a's generous portions make it a great choice for family visits. Households with kids often struggle with menu choices, but the adjustable spice level meant we could enjoy the dakdoritang without worry. Next time I'll have to come for lunch with coworkers.
And the dessert Jeongjeong-a sells — roasted corn puffs — rounded things off perfectly haha. If you're looking for a great dakdoritang spot or a family dining place in Jeongwang-dong, Jeongjeong-a Sikdang is worth a visit.
