Suwon mall Chinese restaurant: 59,000-won duck set, Mirim Yangjang

In short

Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch is a Peking duck Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor of Time Villas Suwon in Gyeonggi. The 59,000-won Beijing duck set comes with a whole duck, two meal choices and a drink, and the writer picked jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup); the duck skin was crisp outside and tender inside, while the jjamppong ran quite spicy for anyone who avoids heat. Mirim Yangjang suits a family meal or a date when a shopping trip calls for a special Chinese course.

An honest review of the Peking duck set with jjajangmyeon and jjamppong at Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch.

Where is it inside Time Villas Suwon?

Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch is a Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor of Time Villas Suwon. I went shopping at Time Villas Suwon for the first time in a while and spent ages deciding what to eat, but the Peking duck hanging outside the restaurant caught my eye completely, so I stopped in to try it after a long time.

Interior

The interior was quite spacious and the tables had plenty of room between them, so it seemed comfortable for a meal. Most striking was the open kitchen area with rows of Peking ducks hanging on display — pretty cool to see.

Menu and the Peking duck set

The menu ranged from Peking duck to dishes like braised pork belly and sweet and sour pork, plus meal items such as jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, and fried rice. The Peking duck set in particular — a whole duck plus two meals plus a drink for ₩59,000 — was a better deal than ordering everything separately, especially for a group of 2–3. We ordered the Beijing duck set (jjajangmyeon + jjamppong, zero-sugar cider) and one extra jjamppong.

Peking duck (Beijing duck)

The Peking duck came out with cucumber, scallion strips, and sauce to wrap it up with. The skin was crispy and nutty-tasting — really good.

The combination of crispy skin and moist duck meat was delicious. Crispy outside, tender inside, clean and tasty. Wrapping the duck, scallion, and cucumber in a pancake with the special sauce made it savory without being greasy.

Jjamppong

Mirim Yangjang's jjamppong with a deep-colored broth

Mirim Yangjang's jjamppong had a deep-colored broth just from the look of it. There was plenty of chili oil in it, giving the broth a rich, heavy flavor. But I'm a spice lightweight, and it turned out spicier than I expected. If you like a hearty, spicy jjamppong, this one might actually be right up your alley. The noodles were on the softer side — personally I prefer them chewier.

Jjajangmyeon

Mirim Yangjang's jjajangmyeon with sauce well coated on the noodles

The black bean sauce on the jjajangmyeon wasn't salty and had a gentle sweetness, so it seemed like it would suit even a kid's palate. The sauce coated the noodles nicely and had good depth of flavor — an easy dish to like with no real downside. If you can't handle spicy food, I'd recommend going with the jjajangmyeon.

Final thoughts

Mirim Yangjang's set menu made it easy to try a variety of dishes. The Peking duck was crispy outside and tender inside — delicious. The jjamppong was quite spicy for a spice lightweight like me, while the jjajangmyeon was a crowd-pleaser with no real downside. It's hard to find places nearby that serve Peking duck, so it was great to enjoy duck and Chinese food together in one spot. If a special Chinese course crosses your mind while shopping, this seems like a good place for a date or a family meal.
