Sinbang-dong, Cheonan jjamppong restaurant for the spice-shy: Bultina
In short
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Sinbang Branch is a cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) restaurant on the first floor of the Woori Bank building in Sinbang-dong, Cheonan. A spice-shy diner was talked into ordering the level 3 cockle jjamppong (11,000 won) with jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles, 8,000 won) and a small sweet and sour pork (17,000 won), and found level 3 more manageable than expected, with a rich broth and generous cockles and seafood. Hi, it's Bulkkun. Today I was craving something spicy for lunch, so I headed to a place in Sinbang-dong I'd been wanting to try for a while. I finally made it — Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Sinbang Branch!
Where is Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Sinbang Branch, and where do you park?

This Sinbang-dong jjamppong spot sits on the first floor of the Woori Bank building. There's a dedicated parking lot behind the building, and beyond that, a free lot with 300 spaces from ground level down to B3.

Right at the entrance you're greeted with photos of jjamppong that look seriously spicy — and packed with cockles.

Interior

Inside is clean and bright with a white-toned decor. It was around lunchtime and pretty packed. The walls are covered in food photos, which made deciding what to order surprisingly hard, haha.
Menu, spice levels and what we ordered
Menu

Here's the menu — the signature cockle jjamppong, cockle jjamppong rice, jjajangmyeon, sweet and sour pork, and fried dumplings. What's unique is you can pick your spice level: level 1 is basic spicy, level 2 is hot, level 3 is fiery, and level 4 is insanely spicy, lol. I'm a total spice wimp so I usually can't handle much, but this time I was forced into level 3, gulp.
- Cockle jjamppong, level 3 - ₩11,000
- Jjajangmyeon - ₩8,000
- Sweet and sour pork (small) - ₩17,000
That's what we ordered. If you leave a Naver receipt review, you get 4 fried dumplings or a drink on the house.
You're only eating true Bultina cockle jjamppong once you've finished the noodles and mixed rice into the broth
They use ingredients delivered that same day and follow a same-day-use policy — once ingredients run out, they close for the day.
Bultina cockle jjamppong is made to order — the noodles are pulled and cooked fresh after you order, so it takes a bit of time.
No reused ingredients, absolutely not.

After a short wait, the cockle jjamppong and jjajangmyeon arrived first. The jjamppong broth looked bright red and genuinely intimidating. The jjajangmyeon, meanwhile, had that old-school jjajang style.
Jjajangmyeon in the old-school style

It really was the old-fashioned jjajangmyeon style like it looked at first glance — slightly nutty with a touch of sweetness. It wasn't too heavy, which suited me perfectly.
How hot is level 3 cockle jjamppong for a spice-shy eater?

Honestly, I thought level 3 would be totally unbearable. But it turned out more manageable than I expected. Maybe my spice tolerance has crept up lately, lol. It was hot but the broth was rich and satisfying — I almost wish I'd tried level 4! There were plenty of cockles and seafood too, so it felt like a really hearty bowl.
Sweet and sour pork, small, 17,000 won

You can't skip sweet and sour pork at a Chinese restaurant. It was crispy and had that perfect sweet-and-sour tang — really delicious. Another great meal today.
Is Bultina worth a lunch stop in Cheonan?
Today I tried the fiery cockle jjamppong, jjajangmyeon, and sweet and sour pork at this Sinbang-dong, Cheonan jjamppong restaurant. The jjamppong loaded with cockles had a surprisingly refreshing flavor, and everything else was easy to enjoy too, no matter your taste. If you're craving Chinese food around lunchtime, this place is worth a visit, haha.
