Haesanggung is a seafood kalguksu (noodle soup) place at 411 Marisan-ro, Eulwang-dong, Incheon. There's a wide private parking lot in front of and beside the restaurant, so parking is free. It's open 11:00–21:00 (last order 20:00), closed every Tuesday.

Why stop at Haesanggung on a Yeongjong drive?

Hi, I'm a travel blogger! ✈️ Today I'm writing up my visit to Haesanggung, a seafood kalguksu spot I ate at while driving around Yeongjong. Apparently eating seafood kalguksu is basically mandatory when you visit Yeongjong.

As soon as I got onto Yeongjong there were tons of kalguksu places, and while deciding where to go, I ended up at Haesanggung, which sells a set including octopus pancake and stir-fried octopus 🤤

Cabbage salad and kimchi and bean sprouts come out as basic side dishes — the bean sprouts are meant to be mixed into the turmeric rice that comes with the stir-fried octopus!

What comes in the Haesanggung set for two?

The Haesanggung set for two comes with whole octopus pancake, stir-fried octopus, turmeric rice, and seafood kalguksu. You can order each dish separately, but the set looked like much better value since you get to try everything at once, so I went with the set for two.

The portions were seriously huge — plenty for more than two people. It also seemed cheaper overall than ordering everything separately!

Whole octopus pancake (nakji hanmari pajeon)

This is an octopus pancake with a whole octopus laid right on top. I didn't expect much since it's part of a set, but it was bigger than I thought. Crispy on the outside, moist inside — crispy-moist perfection!

There's shrimp tucked in between the octopus legs too. Having a whole octopus on there made it taste even better!! Here's a palm comparison shot for scale — the octopus is pretty huge, right?!

Stir-fried octopus and turmeric rice: how spicy is it?

Haesanggung's stir-fried octopus doesn't use capsaicin — the heat comes from the ingredients themselves. So instead of that lingering capsaicin burn, it's spicy for a moment and then the heat fades quickly! Even spice wimps should be able to handle it, so you can order it without worry.

Bean sprouts come out alongside it too, but they're not meant to go into the stir-fried octopus — you mix them into the turmeric rice instead! The rice has a pretty yellow color, so it looks nice too. If you write a review for their event, they also give you somyeon (thin wheat noodles) to mix in, which sounds delicious.

Seafood kalguksu at 13,000 won

Haesanggung's seafood kalguksu is ₩13,000, and ordering it as part of the set gets you roughly one serving. It comes in a big bowl, generously filled, so there's plenty. The broth is seafood-based and packed with umami and deep flavor!

After eating the stir-fried octopus, one sip of the seafood kalguksu broth and the spiciness just melts away!

Bringing your dog: inside the Haesanggung dining room

I got there about an hour before mealtime and Haesanggung was already busy! I think being dog-friendly brings in even more visitors. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly, so it was a pleasant meal overall!
