Ang-butter salt bread takeout at a Songdo hagwon-area café: Cozy Bear

In short

Cafe Cozy Bear Salt Bread Bakery is a newly opened salt bread bakery café in the Songdo District 1 hagwon (private academy) area of Yeonsu, Incheon. Cozy Bear's plain salt bread (3,500 won) and ang-butter salt bread (5,800 won, made with red beans boiled in-house) went home as takeout with an iced Americano and an iced caramel latte, and the base of each loaf was baked almost fried, crackling at the first bite. Time a visit for 9 a.m. or 2 p.m. and the salt bread is still warm from the oven.

True to the name Cozy Bear, there's a cute bear napping on a pillow of salt bread! The image of it carrying an armful of salt bread is adorable too. They're also running a buy 3 get 1 free opening event on the salt bread!

Cozy Bear bakes salt bread twice a day, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Let's take a look at Cozy Bear's salt bread and coffee menu.

Cozy Bear's salt bread comes out twice a day, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Only a limited amount is baked fresh each day, and once it sells out, they may close early.

True to a salt bread bakery, the display case was packed with salt bread 🥰

Cafe Cozy Bear in the Songdo District 1 hagwon area is just as serious about coffee as it is about salt bread!

Cozy Bear's coffee menu board

The signature menu items are the vanilla bean cream latte (₩6,000), Valrhona chocolate milk (₩6,000), and Cozy latte (₩5,000). Americano is ₩3,800, and there are also non-coffee drinks, ades, and teas!! I ordered a plain salt bread, ang-butter salt bread, iced Americano, and iced caramel latte.

Inside Cozy Bear and the outdoor tables

Cafe Cozy Bear's interior pairs calm merbau-colored wood tones with ivory walls, giving the whole space a cozy mood.

There aren't many tables, but it's just the right space to relax with salt bread and coffee.

Glass window looking into the salt bread kitchen

You can watch the salt bread baking process through the glass window inside! That's probably confidence that it's kept spotlessly clean, don't you think?!

If you time it right, you can catch salt bread fresh out of the oven like this 😍 The toasty smell is amazing!!

Freshly baked salt bread

There are outdoor tables, so when the weather's nice like now, I'd recommend sitting outside! If you're visiting with a pet, you can also use the outdoor tables.

Pet-friendly outdoor tables

The counter opens to the outside too, so if you're in a hurry, you can order coffee and salt bread from outside the store! Seems great for a quick stop when picking up the kids from hagwon haha.

Cozy Bear's salt bread and iced coffee: what the takeout order was like

Cozy Bear takeout cup and paper bag

That day I took everything to go. They packed the coffee and bread into a cute cup and paper bag printed with Cozy Bear.

Cozy Bear's iced Americano

The Americano had a nutty, clean, refreshing flavor! It was well balanced, so it was good to drink on its own and also paired nicely with the salt bread.

Iced caramel latte with drizzle

The caramel latte was a sweet latte loaded with caramel drizzle. I thought it would just have caramel syrup mixed in, but a chewy drizzle came up through the straw too! With the drizzle, it was a bit too sweet for me, so I sipped it without fully mixing, keeping the straw a little above the bottom. If you like sweet things, stir the drizzle in well; if a strong sweetness feels like too much, I'd recommend mixing just a little like I did! After the Americano and caramel latte, I got curious about the signature coffees too. Next time I want to try the Cozy latte or the vanilla bean cream latte!

Glossy Cozy Bear salt bread

How do the plain and ang-butter salt bread taste?

Next up, the plump, cute salt bread! The true virtues of a good salt bread have to be a glossy top, crunchy salt, a fluffy interior with a big hollow center, and a greasy, crisp bottom soaked in butter, right?! Well, the glossy top and crunchy salt already pass with flying colors! ❤️

Haha 😇 I want to eat it right now, but I'll hold off until I get home!!

Cross-section of ang-butter salt bread with red bean

This is the ang-butter salt bread, and it was a bit tricky to photograph the inside. It's packed with plump sweet red beans that I really wanted to show you, but the photo didn't quite come out ㅠㅠ Maybe because I'd read that it's house-boiled Korean red beans, the plump beans with their pretty color looked so tempting!

Ang-butter salt bread packed to go

Aaah... I meant to eat it at home, but I couldn't resist the toasty smell and ended up eating it at a red light lol. The second I bit in, the crunch was seriously amazing. Soft bread, salty salt, nutty butter, and sweet red bean. The sweet-and-salty balance was insane, and the carb-and-fat balance was insane too — genuinely delicious ang-butter salt bread.

Plain salt bread with a crisp bottom

Once I got home, I tried the plain salt bread this time! This salt bread bakery café in Songdo, Incheon apparently uses premium French butter, Guérande sea salt, and a premium flour chosen after multiple rounds of testing, all for the sake of the salt bread's flavor and texture. You could really feel the care and pride behind making good salt bread. Let's see if it tastes as good as it sounds!!

And again — crunch!!! Crisp outside, soft inside salt bread. Ahh it's so good 🥰 Especially the bottom, where the butter melted and it baked almost like it was fried!! The butter flavor and texture are the best.

If you're after a new salt bread and coffee spot in Songdo, Cafe Cozy Bear is worth stopping by. And if you want to catch the salt bread fresh out of the oven, remember to go around 9 a.m. or 2 p.m.!
