First pork noodles on our last Jeju day: Handam Guksu, Aewol

The last day of our Jeju trip. Before heading out, we wanted one more look at Jeju's emerald sea, so we headed to Gwakji Beach, known for its especially pretty water color.

As lunchtime rolled around, my daughter's stomach clock rang right on schedule! She's been eating a lot more lately, probably a growth spurt~ She's a total noodle killer — ramyeon, guksu, udon, she's always in!

Since we were already headed to Gwakji Beach, I searched for a pork noodle restaurant in Aewol. We ended up at Handam Guksu Aewol Branch.

It's close to both the Handam Coastal Trail and the Aewol café street.

Where do you park at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch?

There's a dedicated lot right in front, but if it's full you can also park at ✔️Handam Public Parking Lot and Handam Trail Parking Lot (free for 1 hour). Note: Handam Parking Lots 1 and 2 don't count.

We visited past 2pm on a Saturday, after the lunch rush had thinned out, so we got lucky and parked right in front.

Basic side dishes have to be grabbed yourself from the self-serve bar!

Kimchi, pickled vegetables, chili peppers, ssamjang (dipping sauce).

There are also small plates, scissors, forks, and kids' tableware.

Tasting Jeju pork noodles for the first time

I've been to Jeju more times than I can count, but I'd never actually tried gogigguksu (pork noodle soup), Jeju's signature local dish. What makes Jeju pork noodles different? I'd always wondered — and today I finally got the chance to find out! Excited~~~

Handam Guksu's bone broth pork noodles

Slices of Jeju pork lined up neatly on thick noodles. My first-ever pork noodles turned out clean and mild in flavor. My daughter, who's used to seasoned or grilled pork, said the meat tasted a little unfamiliar, but to me it had no odor at all and tasted refreshingly plain.

Above all, the portion was genuinely huge — enough for two people easily.

Handam Guksu's dongchimi bibim noodles

The bibim noodles, served with dongchimi (radish water kimchi) broth, weren't too spicy, so my daughter ate them well, and the distinctive tanginess really woke up our appetites. Best menu item for both my husband and daughter!

Handam Guksu's lean pork rice soup

This one seemed like something young kids would eat well! It came loaded with meat, and again, the portion was massive. It tasted similar to baeksuk (whole boiled chicken soup) — a familiar flavor that went down easily^^

The napa cabbage kimchi in particular was so good

that piling it on top made everything even better.

At first I wondered if the three of us could really finish everything, since every dish came in such a big portion — but in the end, we cleaned every bowl.

As we were leaving after our meal, a staff member handed our daughter a Jeju hallabong (Jeju tangerine) crunch out of nowhere!! 😀 We'd tried to buy some crunch chocolate at Olle Market yesterday but missed our chance — maybe fate meant for us to find it here.
