Why I chose ash brown over patchy red-toned hair

My hair color had gotten really ambiguous lately. It looked like different colors in different sections, and there was still red tone left at the ends.

My hair also looked frizzy, so overall it just felt messy. This time I wanted to sort out the tone evenly with an ash brown that had no red in it, so I went to TONI&GUY Daechi, a hair salon in Daechi-dong.

The salon was clean overall and the seats were spacious, which was comfortable.

The staff greeted me warmly from the start, so even though the service took quite a long time, the mood never felt stiff and I ended up more comfortable than I expected. Also, since the area is full of academies, they said a lot of parents come in after dropping kids off.

The salon opens at 10, but designer Dohwa can be booked from 9, which seemed useful for making use of morning time.

How the consultation on mint dye for red tones went

What I wanted was an ash brown with no red tone. She checked what color I'd done before and my current hair condition, and I told her I wanted it a bit brighter than now.

Designer Dohwa said she uses mint tones to neutralize red, and the dye really was mint-colored — kind of surprising, haha. Instead of just hearing what color I wanted and starting right away, she looked over what tones were actually achievable with my current hair, so the consultation felt detailed.

The coloring process: scalp protectant, root application, heat treatment

Before coloring, she sprayed on a scalp protectant first. Then she applied the dye all over, and at one point it got a bit cold from the AC, so she did a heat treatment once as well.

After waiting for a while, she applied it separately at the roots to match up. When looking into color at a Daechi-dong salon, color matters, but I think this kind of careful process is something worth checking too.

After the coloring was done, I moved to the shampoo bowl. It has a massage function, so lying back and getting a massage while getting shampooed felt genuinely pampering, haha.

With a heated eye mask on top, I got the steam hair clinic treatment, and I wished this part wouldn't end. My hair had been frizzy, but with the clinic service added in, it felt much more settled and calm. I'd been worried about my hair condition while coloring, so getting the clinic treatment near Hanti Station too made the finish that much more satisfying.

After the blow-dry was finished, the overall tone looked way cleaner than before coloring. The uneven patches blended naturally, and just as I wanted, it felt slightly brighter than before.

With the red tone pressed down it looked calm, which I liked even indoors, and I think it'll look even prettier in sunlight. The staff were all kind and cheerful too, so I stayed comfortable through the long session.

It was a Daechi-dong salon visit that left me feeling good all the way to the end. I heard designer Dohwa specializes in perms too, and after experiencing such a detailed consultation and careful technique today, I want to grow my hair out a bit and come back again ~ ^^
