Lamb shoulder rack shashlik in Seokdong, Jinhae: Shashlik Jinhae

In short

Shashlik Jinhae Branch is a charcoal-grilled shashlik restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building in Seokdong, Jinhae-gu, Changwon, Gyeongnam. Over a Friday late lunch, two friends ordered the shoulder rack shashlik: the lamb had almost none of the usual gamey smell, and it arrived with pineapple, onion, mushroom and broccoli to grill alongside. Shashlik Jinhae Branch is dog-friendly and roomy, so it works well for a light meat lunch before an evening get-together.

Here's my review of Shashlik Jinhae Branch, a Seokdong, Jinhae restaurant I visited with a friend for a late lunch on Friday. I'd known about this place for a while and finally made it over haha. It's not a typical Korean BBQ spot but a charcoal-grilled shashlik specialist, so the vibe is a bit different, and there's a wide variety of meats too—

so it's a good option when you're looking for something special to eat in Jinhae. It's especially nice since it's dog-friendly, so it could work well for anyone looking for a place to eat with their dog.

An easy-to-find Jinhae restaurant in Seokdong

Shashlik Jinhae Branch is located in Seokdong, so it wasn't hard to find. It's on the 2nd floor of the building. From the moment I walked in, it felt more like a restaurant or pub than your typical Korean BBQ spot,

with big picture windows looking outside and fairly wide gaps between tables, which seemed good for visiting with a group.

It seemed like a good spot for something like a Changwon jeongmo (regular meetup) or a pre-wedding invitation gathering — not too heavy, where you can eat and

also chat for a long time. Places with tight table spacing can make conversation a bit awkward, but here the space felt relaxed, which I liked.

Board games while you wait!

Inside Shashlik Jinhae Branch, there are board games set up so you can pass the time while you wait.

It's less of a grab-a-quick-meal-and-leave place and more of a spot where you can hang out a while with friends, if that makes sense.

What we ordered: shoulder rack shashlik

What we ordered that day at Shashlik Jinhae Branch was the shoulder rack shashlik.

Lamb is a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it food because of its distinctive smell, right? But the shoulder rack shashlik we had that day barely had any of that smell, so it was easy to enjoy without hesitation.

Charcoal-grilled meat plated with side vegetables

Big chunks of charcoal-grilled meat come out on the plate, alongside pineapple, onion, mushroom, and broccoli that you can grill yourself. It's not just meat plopped on a plate — the plating is nicely done too, so it was great for photos. You can cut the meat into bite-sized pieces, or pick up the pieces still on the bone and tear into them by hand for extra fun.

The outside is charred over charcoal so you get that smoky char flavor, and it's brushed with a sauce that's slightly sweet and pairs well with the meat. I think even people trying lamb for the first time, or those who usually avoid it because of the smell, could eat this comfortably.

Fun to grill over charcoal

Unlike a typical Korean BBQ place where you keep grilling meat at the table, shashlik is served already grilled over open charcoal flame, brought out warm so you can eat right away.

Besides lamb, there are many other types of meat

So if you're someone who worries about your clothes smelling strongly of meat afterward, this could be a more comfortable way to eat. There's also a way to keep the flame going underneath the meat so it stays warm until the end, which was nice.

The pineapple and onion that came alongside were also good lightly grilled with the meat. The pineapple especially — eating a piece between bites of meat gave a little refreshing burst, so I kept reaching for more.

A dog-friendly restaurant in Jinhae

Shashlik Jinhae Branch is dog-friendly. I knew that going in, and honestly, when a restaurant says it's dog-friendly, you might worry a bit about fur flying around or hygiene. But when I visited, the place felt spacious and generally well-kept overall,

and I didn't run into any particular discomfort during my meal. If you're looking for a place to eat out with your dog, this could be worth a visit.

A good stop before an evening plan in Seokdong

We visited Shashlik Jinhae Branch on a Friday during the late lunch hour, and it seemed like a good way to fill up lightly and pass some time before heading to an evening drinking appointment.

The place doesn't have the hectic feel of a typical Korean BBQ spot, and they have a good variety of drinks too, so it suited having a meal plus a drink in the evening as well. It's spacious enough for a group of friends to gather too.

If you're looking for Western-style food in Jinhae and also want to eat meat, but want something a bit different from your usual samgyeopsal or beef place, shashlik seems like a solid option.

They've started serving lunch too

Shashlik Jinhae Branch has apparently started serving lunch too. It worked out well for us to visit on a Friday late lunch like this. There are times when you have an evening plan but don't want to show up starving, yet also don't want a heavy meal beforehand, right?

For times like that, having a bit of meat and conversation in Seokdong and then moving on somewhere else afterward seems like a good plan.

Jju's overall verdict

Shashlik Jinhae Branch felt a bit different from your usual meat restaurant, thanks to the charcoal-grilled shashlik style. The shoulder rack shashlik we had looked great, and above all, my friend was happy that the lamb didn't have a strong smell.

The place is spacious with a good atmosphere, so it suits dates, friend gatherings, and family meals alike, and it's worth considering for a Changwon jeongmo or pre-wedding gathering too. And being dog-friendly is a big plus! I think I'll come back next time to try other shashlik menu items :) If you're in Jinhae and looking for something a bit different from your usual meat restaurant, give the Seokdong shashlik a try!
