Aewol noodle restaurant, chicken-topped bibim noodles: Handam Guksu
In short
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a pork noodle soup restaurant in a glass-walled building near the sea in Aewol, Jeju. Two of us ordered one bone-broth pork noodle soup and one dongchimi (radish water kimchi) bibim noodles, both 10,000 won, plus boiled pork served on a wooden board, and it was more than enough for two. The rich bone broth and the sweet, tangy, spicy bibim noodles go well together, making Handam Guksu an easy ocean-view noodle stop on an Aewol drive.

A glass-walled building by the Aewol shore: outside Handam Guksu

I followed the navigation and arrived at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch! It's located right near the Aewol coast!?? The clean glass-walled building already looked refreshing from outside! It's the perfect spot to stop by while driving around Aewol during a Jeju trip — there's nothing better than a bowl of noodles while looking at the sea. If you want noodles around Hyeopjae, save this place~!!!
Ocean-view window seats, self-serve bar and tablet ordering

Walking inside, the glass-walled window seats caught my eye right away! Neatly decorated in wood tones, with a wide-open view outside, sitting down there really felt like being on a trip haha. Every table orders through a tablet, which was convenient!!

On one side there's a self-serve bar. You grab your own spoons, bowls, small plates, and if you need more side dishes, you just help yourself!! Since it's a fast-turnover noodle restaurant, this self-serve system was well set up, so we used it without any waiting.
Handam Guksu menu and prices in Aewol
- Bone-broth pork noodle soup ₩10,000
- Dongchimi bibim noodles ₩10,000
- Mala pork noodle soup ₩11,000

The menu is simple, which is great~!!

They even have dombe naengsuyuk (chilled boiled pork on a board) and handmade tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty)!!
What we ordered: bone-broth pork noodle soup and dongchimi bibim noodles

I ordered two dishes — dongchimi bibim noodles and bone-broth pork noodle soup~!!

Up close, the broth was really milky and rich! It looked like the bones had been simmered for a long time, so it looked filling just from looking at it!!

There were several thick slices of boiled pork on top, and they were tender with absolutely no gamey smell!!! Eating it together with the broth was so harmonious!? Plenty of bean sprouts and scallions gave it a refreshing taste too!!!!

The noodles were cooked chewy and slid right down, and after a mouthful of the rich broth, coming all the way to Jeju felt worth it!!! A warm bowl of pork noodle soup with an ocean view in Aewol, Jeju.... there's no better healing while traveling hahaha.

The noodles were completely chewy through and through....

Dongchimi bibim noodles topped with chicken
Now for the dongchimi bibim noodles! Bean sprouts, sliced cucumber, and chicken toppings were arranged prettily by color, with a bright red sauce sitting right in the middle — just looking at it made my mouth water haha.

After mixing the sauce and toppings together and taking a bite, a sweet, tangy, spicy flavor hit right away!

Maybe because the sauce is made with dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) broth, the aftertaste was clean and refreshing!? The crunchy cucumber and the chicken topping also made it fun to chew.

Eating it together with the rich pork noodle soup, the spicy bibim noodles really woke up the palate — the pairing was perfect!!

So many bean sprouts too!!

Boiled pork served on a wooden board
Can't forget the boiled pork that came with the noodles! Thick slices of boiled pork were laid out neatly on a wooden board, and they looked soft and moist right away!???

Picking up a piece and eating it, it was clean and savory with absolutely no gamey smell!!!

Two bowls of noodles plus the boiled pork made for a generously sized meal for two!! If you're planning to have pork noodle soup in Aewol, Jeju, I'd recommend enjoying the boiled pork alongside it too!
Is Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch worth a stop?
So that's my full meal of pork noodle soup, bibim noodles, and boiled pork at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch!! The bone broth was rich and clean, so it really hit the spot, and the dongchimi bibim noodles were sweet, tangy and spicy, so it really brought my appetite back to life!! The combination of warm noodle soup and spicy bibim noodles is seriously the best..
