Dongtan bar with minari beef tartare and potato pancake: Jusangnakwon
In short
Jusangnakwon Dongtan Bukgwangjang is a Korean pub serving handmade dishes on the ground floor of the Dongtan Bukgwangjang complex in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a weekday second-round visit, the order was hanwoo minari saengyukhoe, raw beef tartare with minari water dropwort, at 23,900 won and sillatarae gamjajeon, thread-style potato pancake, at 13,900 won; the tartare's seasoning stayed mild enough for the minari aroma to come through, and the pancake was chewy and crisp at once. Even the people who said they were already full finished both plates, which makes it a pairing worth ordering at Jusangnakwon.

A recommendation for a bar near Dongtan Bukgwangjang — a hansik-style bar-restaurant where good food comes with good drinks. Here's my honest review with menu recommendations.

Today I visited Jusangnakwon at Dongtan Bukgwangjang!! In this post I'll honestly break down the vibe on a weekday visit, the dishes I actually tried, and what I'd recommend.

What the Dongtan Bukgwangjang storefront and car park look like

Jusangnakwon sits right on Bukgwangjang! Dongtan's Bukgwangjang and Namgwangjang are such hotspots haha — always packed with people! Jusangnakwon is on the ground floor, so I'd passed by it many times before, but I finally visited after hearing they have a lot of delicious dishes.
Since it's a hansik-style bar-restaurant, it'd be perfect for a first round haha. You can also come for a second round, but then you can't eat as much of the food...

Before going in, there's a standing sign out front listing the menu! Makes your mouth water, right...? Is this a restaurant or a bar @_@ Anyway, I just want meat. I regret not bringing more people so we could order more variety.
Inside Jusangnakwon: seating and atmosphere

This is the vibe inside Jusangnakwon Dongtan Bukgwangjang! It's not huge, more like the perfect size for a second round with friends haha. Actually being not-too-big meant staff responded quickly, and it felt like a great spot for conversation!!

We sat right in front of the counter haha. The liquor shelf is so pretty. Not too loud, not too quiet — I thought it was exactly right for chatting.
Free shrimp chips and the review event

At Jusangnakwon, once you sit down they give you shrimp chips as a complimentary snack!! haha My favorite snack...

They were running a review event too. Even a nostalgic ppopgi (candy-picking) event!!! Go ahead and join in. Looking at the menu, I genuinely couldn't decide. Everything looked so delicious... and we were already full... (this was our second round after all ㅠㅠ)

So many things looked good, even the desserts were on point haha. What we ordered was hanwoo minari saengyukhoe (₩23,900) and sillsatarae gamjajeon (₩13,900)!
Hanwoo minari raw beef tartare, 23,900 won

The hanwoo minari saengyukhoe (₩23,900) came out first! Whoa, the presentation... the second it arrived, the minari (water dropwort) fragrance hit — I thought, this combo is insane.
That feeling when you crack the egg yolk...isn't it the best? They mix it all up thoroughly for you haha.

What doesn't minari go with? Minari samgyeopsal... minari yukhoe... honestly it seems to go with any meat ㅠㅠㅠ

Mixed it up well, one bite!! The tartare seasoning wasn't heavy — just the right level of saltiness, and I loved that so much...!!!

Eating it together with the minari, that fragrant herb note plus the sweet-salty tartare seasoning — honestly no words needed. You have to order this dish.
Sillatarae gamjajeon, thread-style potato pancake, 13,900 won

This is the sillsatarae gamjajeon (₩13,900)! True to its name, it came out incredibly light and thinly shredded, potato-thread style. You could tell just by looking — this thing is crispy.
I think this is the first time I've seen a potato pancake where you can actually see the texture of the shredded potato strands ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Normally gamjajeon is all about the chewiness. This one had chewy plus crispy!!

Can you see the texture when it's cut?! It's so thin, it's soft and not heavy at all haha.

A bite of gamjajeon, a bite of minari beef tartare, repeat like that... it's absolute madness (in the best way).....

Honest verdict on Jusangnakwon, plus corkage
Wait, where did 'I'm so full, this is our second round' me go. Where did the people saying 'I can't eat any more' go???? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Extremely satisfying. Especially the minari beef tartare combo... whoever invented that deserves major props.
This place also allows corkage, so if you've got good liquor at home, bringing it along with great food here sounds like a great idea! That was my review of Jusangnakwon Dongtan Bukgwangjang haha.
