A day when the family was craving hot shabu-shabu! I finally went to Yun Ujae Gogiri Shabu Kalguksu, a place I'd wanted to try for ages 🤤
Yun Ujae in Gogi-dong, Yongin: parking and waiting

I'd heard so much about the insane weekend waits at this famous Yongin restaurant that I kept putting off going. But a weekday slot opened up, so I jumped on it haha.
It's tucked into the Gogi-ri area, so I worried it might be hard to find down some alley, but it turned out to be easier to locate than expected. There's parking space right in front, so we parked with no hassle and went in.

The atmosphere inside Yun Ujae Gogiri Shabu Kalguksu
The first thing I thought walking in was, "wow, this is really spacious and clean!"

The whole place felt tidy and pleasant, perfect for a family meal out. The tables weren't cramped and the space itself was wide, making for a relaxed meal. The staff greeted us kindly right away too, so the first impression was great :)

There was even a separate customer waiting lounge. Since this famous Gogi-ri restaurant probably gets long waits often, it must be much more comfortable than standing around outside.

There was also a noodle room on one side where you could watch the noodles being made by hand. After tasting the kalguksu noodles later, they were really delicious — I guess that's thanks to being self-made haha.
Menu and prices

Ordering was easy with the kiosk. The shabu-kalguksu we ordered was 11,500 won per person! That price includes meat, vegetables, mushrooms, the self-made kalguksu noodles, and even fried rice at the end.

Given today's prices, isn't 11,500 won for this whole spread really great?! The portions were generous too, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a Suji restaurant or a budget-friendly family meal out.
With shabu-kalguksu, you can also choose your broth flavor! Red broth comes in mild or spicy, white broth in mild or medium, so you can order based on your spice preference. We went straight for the spicy red broth without hesitation haha.
And while looking at the menu, I couldn't just walk past the crispy seafood pancake, so we added that too. It looked so good just from the visual that I couldn't not order it lol.

Little touches of thoughtfulness all over the table
The table had detailed instructions on how to enjoy the shabu-kalguksu, so even first-timers could eat without any trouble.

On top of that, there was even a timer and a hair tie ready! Anyone with long hair knows how annoying it can be while eating shabu-shabu, so I loved that they thought of that haha.

You can take as much kimchi as you like from the self-service corner. The kimchi here is genuinely delicious. It went so well with the kalguksu that I went back for more several times haha.

The self-service bar even had takeout containers specifically for leftover pancake. Nice touch if you can't finish it all — you can just pack it up yourself and take it home.
The shabu-shabu finally arrives!

And finally, the long-awaited shabu-shabu shows up ❤️❤️❤️ Doesn't it look incredibly generous just from the visual?!
Once the broth started boiling, we put the meat in first. There was plenty of vegetables and mushrooms too, so the broth got richer and richer as it boiled.

Following the instructions written on the table, I made the recommended sauce myself. Everyone, you absolutely have to make this... this sauce is a total game changer!! Dipping the meat and vegetables into it went perfectly with the spicy broth.

Wrapping meat and vegetables in the wide kalguksu noodles
After eating a good amount of meat and vegetables, it's time for the long-awaited wide kalguksu noodles to go in.
Staff add these noodles in directly, and once the flat noodles cook through, you wrap the remaining meat and vegetables together with the noodles and eat them. This is genuinely... insanely good ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
Eating the chewy noodles together with the meat and vegetables, I finally understood why Yun Ujae Gogiri Shabu Kalguksu is so famous. Personally, wrapping meat and vegetables with the noodles was way tastier than eating the noodles alone!

Make sure to try the crispy seafood pancake too
Around the time the noodles went in, the crispy seafood pancake also arrived. True to its name, it was crispy outside and moist inside — eating it while still hot was really delicious ㅠㅠ

The shrimp inside were especially big, and the ingredients were packed in generously, giving it a satisfying bite too. I'd wondered whether to just stick with shabu-shabu, but I was so glad I ordered this too! If you're visiting with a group, definitely get the crispy seafood pancake as a side — highly recommend!!

Finishing with kalguksu and fried rice
Thought it was over once the wide noodles were gone? Nope haha. We polished off the regular kalguksu noodles too, and then finished with fried rice! You can't come for shabu-shabu and skip the fried rice, right lol🤣 Drinking the deeply infused broth and finishing with the fried rice made for a truly perfect course.
Going through meat, vegetables, wide noodles, kalguksu, and finally fried rice in order, I ended up seriously full.

Final verdict ✨
This was my first visit to Yun Ujae Gogiri Shabu Kalguksu! After tasting it, I get why people are willing to wait for this place.
The restaurant was spacious and clean, the staff were kind, and above all, for just 11,500 won per person you get meat, vegetables, mushrooms, self-made kalguksu noodles, and fried rice — the value for money was genuinely impressive.
The shabu-kalguksu itself was delicious, but personally, the combination of wrapping meat and vegetables in the wide noodles and the crispy seafood pancake stood out the most. If you're looking for a Yongin restaurant for a hearty family meal out, or a Gogi-ri restaurant or Suji restaurant to visit while out and about in the Gogi-ri area, give this place a try 🤤
This was my first time going, but... I have a feeling I'll be coming back here often haha 😁
