Sold-out pork jowl and clam kalguksu at Dangsan pub Cheongun Bossam

In short

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch is a bossam (boiled pork wrap) restaurant with outdoor evening tables near Dangsan Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, a short walk from Line 2 Exit 2 and Line 9 Exit 13. On a weekday visit at 7:30pm during a business trip to Yeouido, the gabrisal (pork jowl) bossam was already sold out, so the order became the small five-layer pork bossam set at 35,000 won, which came with a free clam kalguksu (noodle soup). Even a friend who dislikes kalguksu drained the broth, and that clam kalguksu turned out to be the real main dish at Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch.

A Dangsan Station dinner recommendation: Cheongun Bossam's clam noodle soup makes for a great evening drinking spot

Table setting with five-layer pork bossam and clam noodle soup at Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch

I was in Seoul for an international conference in Yeouido and booked a room near Dangsan Station since it's fairly close by. Looking for somewhere to eat dinner with a friend, I got tempted by the gerbisal bossam plus clam noodle combo I saw online and decided to check it out! Sadly, since I'd finished work a bit late, the gerbisal bossam was already sold out — but the regular five-layer pork bossam was still available, and with the nice weather and good mood, we sat at an outdoor patio table and enjoyed a great dinner.

What we ordered at Cheongun Bossam near Dangsan Station

Spicy radish salad and cabbage served with bossam

The glossy, shiny bossam came with spicy radish salad, spicy sauce, and cool cabbage leaves — so many combinations to try that it never got boring, and whenever the meat cooled down they'd heat it up again for us, so we enjoyed it deliciously to the very end :)

The inner tables have nice cool air conditioning and a baseball broadcast on, but since it wasn't the SSG game, just Doosan vs LG, and the weather was nice, we headed for the patio table instead ^^ Staff brought over an ordering tablet and set it up for us.

There are three types of bossam — five-layer pork, spicy octopus, and gerbisal — and every bossam order comes with a free noodle soup or cold buckwheat noodles on the side, which makes this famously delicious spot great value too. We chose the five-layer pork bossam; you can add 6,000 won to upgrade to gerbisal, but by 7:30pm on a weekday it was already sold out, so get off work early if you want to try it!

Side dishes served at Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch
Bottle of Saero soju on the outdoor patio table
  • Five-layer pork bossam set (small): 35,000 won
  • Clam noodle soup OR cold buckwheat noodles (free)
  • Tuna mayo rice ball: 3,000 won
  • Saero soju: 5,000 won

Here are the side dishes that came out, and for once I tried Saero instead of the usual Chamisul Fresh soju~ Still, I think I prefer Fresh ^^

Cheongun Bossam's signature five-layer pork bossam set, small size

Cheongun Bossam's signature dish near Dangsan Station, glistening and beautiful. I really do believe Koreans don't need pasta, lasagna, or steak — bossam with noodle soup is the ultimate combo.

Pile the lettuce wrap with all the side dishes and eat it in one bite — you'll see how happy it makes you, and how smoothly the soju goes down~

Spicy sauce and radish salad served with bossam
Well-seasoned cabbage and bossam pork

It's not just the meat that's good — the spicy radish salad, spicy sauce, and cabbage that come with it are all well seasoned too, so the flavors doubled up nicely.

Half-eaten plate of bossam with a soju glass
Bossam side dish enjoyed with soju on the patio

With two of us eating bossam as a starter and filling up while sipping a shot or two of soju~ then out comes what I personally consider the real main dish: the clam noodle soup.

The clam kalguksu that even a kalguksu hater finished

A bowl of the complimentary clam noodle soup
Broth of clam noodle soup topped with crown daisy greens

So here's the thing — I actually really don't like noodle soup. Why? Because I hate that distinctive flour taste, so I usually barely manage to eat just the seafood and broth, and even then, if the broth itself tastes floury, I won't touch it at all, you know?

But,,, Cheongun Bossam is actually a noodle soup place. This clam noodle soup won over even my picky palate — the refreshing seafood and crown daisy greens, the nutty zucchini, made the broth incredible, with zero flour smell or taste at all. I poured even the leftover broth from the bottom of the bowl into a dish and drank it all down ^^ (highly recommend)

Just so you know, if you take part in the receipt review event, they'll give you a free 3,000-won tuna mayo rice ball :)

Generous portion and tasty — very nice ^^
