Gangneung ocean-view café with corn mayo cheese bread: Baegya Coffee

Whenever I travel to Gangneung, I always end up seeking out an ocean-view café. This time I visited Baegya Coffee, a large bakery café with an ocean view right on Gyeongpo Beach in Gangneung. Gangneung has so many cafés with sea views that I've been to quite a few by now, but honestly, Baegya Coffee had one of the best views I've ever seen there.

Breads that taste better warmed up are labeled, haha. You can heat them in the microwave, and there's a self-service packaging station too, so if you got a little greedy and have leftover bread, you can pack it up to go without feeling awkward about it.

Gyeongpo Beach views from Baegya Coffee's 3rd floor and 4th-floor rooftop

Baegya Coffee is quite a large bakery café, so the seating feels spacious, and what I loved most was that every single floor has a space where you can see the sea! There are plenty of seats inside with an ocean view, and each floor also has a terrace, so on a nice day it would be lovely to feel the sea breeze while looking out at Gyeongpo Beach.

Out of everything, my favorite spots were the 3rd floor and the 4th-floor rooftop! The higher up you go, the more the view opens up, and Gyeongpo Beach's ocean comes into full view — honestly, up there, just staring at the sea felt better than drinking the actual drink.

On a nice-weather day especially, the blue sea and sky stretch out so refreshingly that you'll think, "Ah, it was so worth coming all the way to Gangneung!" haha. Among people looking for an ocean-view café in Gangneung, this place would especially suit those who want to just look at the sea to their heart's content rather than admire a pretty interior.

Another thing I personally loved was how easy the parking was! Cafés near Gyeongpo Beach in Gangneung get a lot of tourists, so parking can sometimes be stressful, but at Baegya Coffee it was easy, which made visiting by car much less of a burden.

I was especially curious about the signature corn cream shot latte! The name alone screamed 'Baegya Coffee's signature menu,' so I ordered it, and it delivered — the sweet, nutty flavor unique to corn combined with a soft cream made it feel like enjoying a dessert. The bitter edge of the coffee cut through it too, so it wasn't just plain sweet, which I liked. If you like corn, this is a menu item worth trying at least once!

Among the breads, the corn mayo cheese bread caught my eye so I picked it up. The sweet, nutty flavor of corn combined with the salty richness of mayonnaise, plus the savoriness of cheese, gave it a nice sweet-and-salty charm. It went well with coffee, and if you like soft, savory flavors, this one will probably suit your taste, haha.

The mocha financier had coffee aroma blended with sweet flavor, making it a simple, easy pairing with coffee. There's such a wide variety of baked goods that bread lovers will probably start debating what to eat the moment they walk in.

Who is Baegya Coffee in Gangneung best for?

I've been to many ocean-view cafés in Gangneung, but Baegya Coffee had a view impressive enough that simply looking at the sea could be the whole point of the visit. If you're looking for a café near Gyeongpo Beach where you can look at the sea to your heart's content, or if you want to enjoy a large bakery café and an ocean view at the same time during your Gangneung trip, this is one to recommend!

The view of Gyeongpo Beach from the 3rd floor and the 4th-floor rooftop in particular was truly the best 💙. Between the good coffee and bread and getting to take in the wide-open sea to my heart's content, it was a great café to stop by during a Gangneung trip. Next time I'm in Gangneung on a nice-weather day, I definitely want to come back!
