Gochu jjajang with a baby at Marine City ocean-view Chinese: Bueokgan

In short

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an ocean-view Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Adelis commercial building in Haeundae, Busan, right above Subyeon Choego Pork Gukbap. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out over Dongbaekseom and Haeundae Beach, and because Bueokgan has group rooms, private rooms and baby chairs, we brought our baby and ordered gochu jjajang (chili black bean noodles), mala gosu jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup with cilantro) and black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk (sweet and sour sirloin pork). The lineup is a step away from the usual Chinese restaurant menu, which makes Bueokgan a good pick for a family meal or a date.

Bueokgan Chinese, a Chinese restaurant in Centum Marine City, Busan.

Today I'm introducing an ocean-view Chinese restaurant with great atmosphere in Marine City, Haeundae — you can enjoy familiar yet varied Chinese dishes from jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) to jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) to tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), so I recommend it to anyone hunting for a good Chinese restaurant in Centum.

Where is Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch, and where do you park?

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is on the 2nd floor of the Adelis commercial building in Haeundae, above Subyeon Choego Pork Gukbap, so you get an ocean view right off the bat, and parking support made it easy to visit by car.

On the weekend there were no spots in the building lot so we parked on the roadside, but they said parking is enforced on weekdays, so definitely park in the building lot! Taking the building elevator up brought us right to the restaurant entrance.

Ocean-view seating and menu at Bueokgan: easy with a baby

One of the best things about the Marine City branch is this wide-open ocean view — through the floor-to-ceiling windows you can see Dongbaekseom and the blue waters of Haeundae the whole meal, which makes it perfect for a date, a gathering, or a family meal out.

The seating was spacious with group rooms and private rooms available, plus baby chairs, so it was a great place to visit with a baby too.

Beyond the basic jjajangmyeon and jjamppong there were many variations, plus lots of side dishes, and you could go for a set for good value — recommended.

How did the three dishes taste at Bueokgan Chinese?

I ordered three dishes — gochu jjajang, mala gosu jjamppong, and black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk — and the portions were generous and the presentation looked great, so I was excited!

Gochu jjajang (chili black bean noodles)

Gochu jjajang has a rich jjajang sauce with the spicy flavor of gochu (chili) added, so it wasn't greasy and felt clean to eat — it felt less like a spicy jjajangmyeon and more like a chili stir-fried noodle, which made it not so predictable.

With the plump noodles combined with the sweet, savory jjajang flavor and a mild heat, it wasn't too spicy and was a Chinese dish good even for kids to eat.

Mala gosu jjamppong (spicy seafood noodles with cilantro)

Mala gosu jjamppong is a mala-scented jjamppong with a hot and spicy broth layered with the distinctive aroma and flavor of mala that really wakes up the appetite.

Mala gosu jjamppong piled with cilantro

It came piled with plenty of gosu (cilantro), which I love, so I ordered it the moment I saw it on the menu — it had an exotic jjamppong feel that was a nice change of pace!

Spicy jjamppong broth full of ingredients

You get to enjoy the fiery broth along with a variety of ingredients, so if you like spicy Chinese dishes, this is one I'd recommend.

Crispy fried black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk

Black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk (sweet and sour sirloin pork)

Black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk is crispy outside and moist inside, with black vinegar adding an appealing sweet-and-sour flavor — a tangsuyuk with a distinctly different feel from any I'd tried elsewhere.

Black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk topped with coconut powder

Coconut powder on top brought out the texture and flavor even more, and it paired well as a side alongside the jjajangmyeon and jjamppong — recommended as a side dish!

The sweet-and-sour sauce and crispy batter went well together, and the portion was generous enough to share among several people.
