Danyang market bakery souvenirs for coworkers: Black Garlic Salt Bread
In short
Black Garlic Salt Bread (흑마늘소금빵) is a black garlic salt bread bakery inside Gujang Market in Danyang, Chungbuk. The shop sits about 50 meters to the right of Danyang Heuk Garlic Nurungji Dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken), so a chicken pickup led straight into a tasting at the sample counter out front and a generous box packed for coworkers back at the office. Made with Danyang garlic, the bread works as a regional gift, not just a travel snack.

You can't do a Danyang Gujang Market food tour and stop at just the fried chicken. I tried the black garlic salt bread made with Danyang's specialty garlic and packed some to go — great as travel snacking, and also solid as a Danyang gift for coworkers.

Where is Black Garlic Salt Bread in Danyang's Gujang Market? 50m right of the dakgangjeong shop
Black Garlic Salt Bread sits inside Danyang Gujang Market, about a 50-meter walk to the right of Danyang Heuk Garlic Nurungji Fried Chicken. That made it easy to grab the chicken and swing by in one trip.
Gujang Market is one of the go-to spots for things to do in Danyang. I've long liked Danyang Heuk Garlic Nurungji Fried Chicken, so I picked up their double black-garlic-flavor fried chicken and black garlic makgeolli (rice wine), then kept the market food tour going.

Next stop: the newly discovered black garlic salt bread! Garlic fried chicken, garlic salt bread — I felt like I was really hunting down the real Danyang Gujang Market food spots.

What goes into the black garlic salt bread at Black Garlic Salt Bread?
Black Garlic Salt Bread is apparently the second bakery launched by Danbbang Bakery. They use Danyang's native six-clove garlic, sun-dried salt, and French gourmet butter, and put their own house-aged black garlic extract — made from local Danyang garlic — right into the bread.

One corner of the shop is even set up as a black garlic aging room. It was pretty striking to see garlic aging from day 4 through day 9 laid out on display. You could see with your own eyes that this isn't garlic-flavored bread with added flavoring — it's actually aged black garlic they made themselves. The bread is kneaded in-house, with a same-day-made, same-day-sold policy.

There was also a gift set available that mixes several varieties together.

Is black garlic too strong for some? Try the sample counter first
In front of Black Garlic Salt Bread there's a sample counter with sliced pieces of salt bread so you can taste before buying. Black garlic has that distinctive aroma, so I figured it might be a love-it-or-hate-it thing. When you're about to pack several of a menu item you've never tried before while traveling, it can feel like a gamble — so being able to taste first was great.
The salt bread itself was golden and crisp on the outside, with visible layers inside. The buttery, salty richness combined with the black garlic flavor gave it a character clearly different from a plain salt bread.
I already love salt bread, and now black garlic salt bread? I can't resist this.
After tasting, I picked the ones I liked and had them packed up. The bag even had storage instructions printed on it — seal and freeze if not eating same day, thaw before reheating in an oven or air fryer — which made it convenient to bring as a gift.

Ice cream salt bread: saved for the next Danyang trip
There was also Sanghasa Farm organic milk ice cream and ice cream salt bread in front of the shop, which caught my curiosity too. But I'd already had lunch, plus fried chicken and garlic bread from the market, so I was way too full. No greed this time — salt bread only!

Packing a generous box of salt bread as a gift for coworkers
And I didn't just buy for myself — I packed plenty of the salt bread from Danyang to share with coworkers back at work. Since Danyang is famous for garlic, black garlic salt bread with that local character felt like a better travel gift than an ordinary bread.

If you're heading to Danyang Gujang Market, it's an easy walk from the fried chicken shop, so I'd recommend visiting both together. If you're looking for a Danyang Gujang Market bakery or something a little special to pack from the market, taste it yourself at the sample counter and pick the salt bread that suits you.
