I was craving pho, so I went to Wolmidang Chonnam National University Branch! I was looking for somewhere to eat near Chonnam National University and this place let me try pho, cha gio, and rice balls all at once.
What we ordered at Wolmidang in Yongbong-dong, and what it cost
This time we ordered beef brisket pho for 11,000 won, soy-grilled bulgogi with cheese and grilled rice balls for 15,000 won, couple's cha gio for 7,500 won, and a Coca-Cola for 2,000 won.

So it came to 35,500 won total. Just ordering pho on its own is fine too, but ordering sides alongside made it great for sharing a bit of everything between the two of us :)

How tablet ordering works at your table
Wolmidang, the pho place I found near Chonnam National University, has you order directly from a tablet at your table. It was convenient to look through the menu photos and descriptions at your own pace, and beyond pho there were also good side dishes to pair with it, like cha gio and rice balls. If you're looking for a lunch spot near Chonnam National University or a good Vietnamese pho restaurant in Gwangju, this felt like an easy, low-pressure place to visit.

How to eat Wolmidang's pho at its best
There were also instructions on the table for how to enjoy the pho.

First, you spoon in about 1-2 spoonfuls of bun cha sauce into the noodles to loosen them up so they don't clump, then eat the noodles with the vegetables and meat, dipping into the bun cha sauce as you like. If you want it spicier, there's hot chili sauce, and if you want something sweet and savory, there's hoisin sauce.

I also asked for a refill of bean sprouts partway through and piled them generously onto the pho. Adding the crunchy sprouts made the texture even better alongside the noodles and let me enjoy an even heartier bowl.

Beef brisket pho, 11,000 won
The main dish we ordered was the beef brisket pho. It comes with a rich meat broth, brisket, and finely shredded beef shank, so grabbing the meat and noodles together made for a really filling bowl.

Adding more bean sprouts along the way and mixing in the sauces on the table to my taste meant I never got tired of it, even to the last bite. It's a great pho restaurant in Gwangju to visit whenever you're craving warm broth near Chonnam National University.

Mixing in pickled onions along the way and dipping into the prepared sauces let me enjoy a whole different flavor each time. If you like pho and you're around Chonnam National University, this Gwangju pho spot is worth a stop.

Soy flame-grilled bulgogi with cheese and grilled rice balls, 15,000 won
The soy-grilled bulgogi with cheese and grilled rice balls sounded pretty filling just from the name! It's soy-grilled bulgogi made with Wolmidang's special sauce, paired with 100% natural cheese and grilled rice balls made from domestic rice.

It was a great side to order if pho alone feels like it's not quite enough, and the combo of bulgogi, cheese, and rice balls made for a totally different, hearty experience from the pho. If you're visiting for lunch in Buk-gu, Gwangju and have a big appetite, ordering this kind of side alongside is a great idea.

Couple's cha gio: sweet potato, shrimp and menbosha, 7,500 won
For a side, we also ordered the couple's cha gio. It comes with 2 sweet potato cha gio, 2 shrimp cha gio, and 2 menbosha — 6 pieces total!

Instead of just one type, you get to try two of each of the three kinds, which made it a perfect set for the two of us to split, one of each.

Adding a crispy side went great with the pho too, and it's a good menu to order alongside if pho alone leaves you wanting a bit more.
Is Wolmidang good for solo dining near Chonnam National University?
Wolmidang Chonnam National University Branch's menu is mostly single-bowl meals, so it's not just good for groups — it's also easy to visit solo for a bowl of pho. Since you order right at your table with a tablet, you don't need to flag down staff. So it seemed like a great choice if you're looking for a solo dining spot near Chonnam National University, or just need a simple but hearty lunch.

A filling lunch for two, from pho to the sides
This time we tried several dishes together — the beef brisket pho, the soy-grilled bulgogi rice balls, and the couple's cha gio. The pho got even more filling with a bean sprout refill, and the couple's cha gio came with three kinds — sweet potato, shrimp, and menbosha — so it was fun to try a bit of everything.
If you're looking for a good pho restaurant near Chonnam National University in Gwangju, a hearty lunch spot in Buk-gu, Gwangju, or an easy solo dining spot near Chonnam National University, give Wolmidang Chonnam National University Branch a try :)
