Sookdae Korean BBQ family dinner with cheese bomb egg custard: Muttuk

In short

Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant on Cheongpa-ro in Yongsan, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Sookdae Station, where staff grill the meat for you. On a weekend family dinner the order was two servings of matcha pork ribs, two servings of pork neck, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and cheese bomb egg custard: the pork neck burst with juice, while the matcha ribs tasted like classic pork ribs at first bite before a gentle matcha aroma came through. With corkage free, baby chairs and pets welcome in a cage, Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch suits family meals and group gatherings.

Muttuk is a well-known Korean BBQ restaurant near Sookdae Station where staff grill everything for you. They serve pork, beef, and seasoned pork ribs, and the limited-menu matcha pork ribs are grilled with a sweet-savory base sauce plus a slightly bitter matcha sauce, giving them a gentle matcha flavor. The meat was so tender and delicious, and best of all I felt light afterward — a really satisfying meal. I'd recommend it for group gatherings, family meals, or dates.

Where is Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch, and is there parking?

It's about a 5-minute walk from Sookdae Station toward Sookmyung Women's University. I visited on a weekend at 6pm. There seemed to be room for about 1-2 cars to park in front of the restaurant.

This place was also featured on SBS Live Today. It was introduced as Cheongpa-dong's hot matcha pork ribs spot.

What exactly are Muttuk's matcha pork ribs?

Seeing these matcha pork ribs made me think I had to come to Muttuk once. I'd never seen anything like this before — if you like pairing your meat with a fragrant sauce, you really should try it. The matcha flavor isn't strong, it's subtle, so it might feel unfamiliar the first time you eat it. But after a few bites, you'll be hooked.

Inside Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch: groups and baby chairs

Inside there's one open hall plus another space further in on the right. It seems great for group gatherings. There was a baby chair too, and everything was clean.

Corkage free and pets welcome in a cage

A big perk of Muttuk, a top pork belly spot in Yongsan — it's corkage free! You can bring whatever drinks you like. Pets are welcome too if you bring a cage.

Muttuk menu and lunch prices

Let me show you the menu board. Even though it's a restaurant where staff grill the meat for you, the prices are quite reasonable. If you order meat before 5:30pm or after 8pm, they give you kimchi noodle soup on the house. I ordered two servings of matcha pork ribs, two servings of pork neck, doenjang jjigae, and egg custard. Muttuk also has a lunch menu (11:30am–3pm).

The side dish kick: minari soy sauce and garlic sauce

The banchan (side dishes) came out first, and what stood out were the minari (water dropwort) soy sauce and garlic sauce. These were a total game-changer.

Thick pork neck for two, grilled by the staff start to finish

The pork neck for two came out, and it was incredibly thick. This is a well-known BBQ spot near Sookdae where staff grill everything from start to finish. They grilled it perfectly and quickly, which made it a really nice family dinner.

It sizzled away on the grill. They cut it into neat bite-sized pieces. They even refilled the side dishes we'd finished, grilled the meat beautifully, and the staff were really kind.

Let's try the well-grilled pork neck first. Wow... it was so tender and juicy that I almost couldn't believe it was pork neck. Truly delicious. If you're looking for a great BBQ restaurant near Sookdae, I'd highly recommend Muttuk.

Doenjang jjigae and multigrain rice at Muttuk

The doenjang jjigae came out too. It had just the right amount of spice and was delicious. I polished off a whole bowl of rice. By the way, the rice comes as multigrain.

How to eat at Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch

Let me share how to enjoy Muttuk to the fullest. For the first bite, just dip it in salt to enjoy the meat's natural flavor. Second, lightly toast some gim (seaweed) and eat it with squid jeotgal (salted fermented squid). The meat itself is delicious, but the side dishes you pair it with are just as good — truly the best.

Also try it with the minari soy sauce and garlic sauce. Really delicious. I'd only had minari pork belly before, but eating it raw gives a stronger aroma and a nice crunchy texture. And the garlic sauce — no need to say more, it's the best.

Cheese bomb egg custard

We also ordered the cheese bomb egg custard. Its look is truly explosive (in a good way). Packed full of corn and cheese, it had a great texture and tasted amazing too.

Matcha pork ribs for two: how did they taste?

Next up, the matcha pork ribs. Truly a look I'd never seen anywhere else. People say green can dull your appetite, but do you understand the feeling of really wanting to try it anyway?

They grill the seasoned ribs for you too. Right as we were finishing the meat, they changed the grill plate and got it ready. This is the two-serving portion.

They cut it into bite-sized pieces, and at the end topped it with minari to infuse the aroma all the way through. To describe the flavor: the first taste is like regular pork ribs, and as you chew, a subtle matcha flavor rises up — it felt really good. The aftertaste is clean. We picked the bones clean and wrapped up the meal as a family of big eaters.

Finishing touch: a stick mouthwash on the way out

At the counter, they had stick gargle ready. The owner's sense of detail is amazing.

Wanna One's Yoon Ji-sung has also visited this place — that just shows how good it is!!! That wraps up my introduction to Muttuk, a great BBQ restaurant near Sookdae. If you're looking for corkage-free BBQ in Yongsan, I'd recommend it.
