Ginger highball and grilled makchang at Euljiro Korean BBQ spot
In short
Baegyeom Makchang Euljiro Main Branch is a salt-cured, aged makchang (grilled pork intestines) restaurant near Euljiro 3-ga Station on Supyo-ro in Jung-gu, Seoul. The writer ordered two servings of salt makchang with ginger highballs, plus spicy grilled makchang and kimchi noodle soup, and was especially struck by the white soybean soup served on arrival. Picky about highballs, the writer says the ginger highball alone guarantees a return visit.

Today I visited Baegyeom Makchang, a well-known spot in Euljiro 3-ga! I'd been curious about it while wandering around Euljiro, and I finally made it there haha.

Baegyeom Makchang gives off that unmistakable good-restaurant smell from the outside!

I thought it was a chain, but this turns out to be the main branch?!?! Maybe because they have a foreign-language menu, there were so many foreign customers too! If you're looking for a spot in Euljiro to take a foreign friend, this could be a great choice!!!

We had reserved ahead so our table was already set up when we arrived!! Makchang dipping sauce, peppers, scallions, perilla leaves, and even scallion kimchi!!!! Such a perfect spread...

The Baegyeom Makchang menu: what we ordered
Here's the menu at Baegyeom Makchang, a makchang spot in Euljiro! Makchang orders start from 2 servings, there are plenty of side dishes, and they even have highballs, which is great! We first ordered 2 servings of salt makchang and 2 ginger highballs haha.

The basic table setting at Baegyeom Makchang in Euljiro

The soybean soup that comes out first
At Baegyeom Makchang, once you order, they bring out soybean soup first!!! It's genuinely white soybean soup, and it's such a treasure... so, so good T_T. It feels like drinking a really rich, warm soybean broth? My friend and I both went wide-eyed eating it haha.

Turns out they actually put soybeans into the makchang dipping sauce!!! No wonder the sauce was so delicious T_T. What a labor of love that sauce is!!! You mix the makchang sauce with cheongyang chili peppers and scallions to your taste haha.

This makchang spot in Euljiro even gives you great CESCO wet wipes haha.

Baegyeom Makchang, a bar/restaurant in Euljiro, does salt pre-grilling and aging!

Ginger highball: a must if you love highballs
Our ginger highballs arrived! I'm genuinely a highball lover and fairly picky about it lol, but this was seriously so good?!?! If you go to Baegyeom Makchang, definitely order the ginger highball!

How to grill the salt makchang, 2 servings
And then our ordered salt makchang, 2 servings! It's great that it comes pre-grilled.
With makchang, you just cut it and flip it so it doesn't burn — but I'd recommend cutting it with some thickness, since if you slice it too thin, it burns easily!
As the instructions said, we piled on peppers and scallions and mixed it all together haha.
Look at that color... looks insanely good, right

They also give you scallions — grill those up and it's an instant trip to heaven

We dipped it in the makchang sauce, in salt, ate it with cheongyang chili peppers~ but surprisingly, eating it with just salt was insanely good!!!!!!!!!!
The staff were so kind
My friend and I were watching the table next to us enjoy kimchi noodle soup so much, thinking should we order it? and we both said it at the same time T_T lol. But the staff kindly asked if we really meant to order two, and said they'd cancel one for us... Delicious AND kind — this Euljiro bar/restaurant, Baegyeom Makchang, T_T.
There was a foreign staff member who asked first if we needed an apron, and when she saw we weren't drinking beer yet, asked if we wanted it brought later — so-------- kind T_T.

The extra order: spicy grilled makchang
And the extra order of seasoned makchang haha... Baegyeom Makchang's spicy grilled makchang comes out already fully grilled!!! It had barely any spiciness, and that sauce in the middle was so!!!! good T_T. Highly recommend this too... A little sad we couldn't reheat it, but it was insanely good anyway.

Dipping the spicy grilled makchang in sauce and eating it with perilla leaves and garlic was also amazing

Why does everyone order the kimchi noodle soup?
We even ordered kimchi noodle soup lol. It came out right after ordering, and the portion was genuinely huge... so good. I always wondered why everyone orders this, but now I get it lol.

Yummy, the noodles felt like something between naengmyeon (cold noodles) and somyeon (thin wheat noodles)!! This is not just plain noodle soup, everyone — definitely order it.
How about it for company dinners or group gatherings?
Baegyeom Makchang in Euljiro has spacious seating, so it looked perfect for a Euljiro company dinner or group gathering!! There were actually people having a company dinner there too.

We mixed the leftover bit of highball with beer and it was honey-sweet... If you're looking for a great makchang spot in Euljiro, a group gathering or date course in Euljiro, or a restaurant to take a foreign friend to!!! I recommend it to everyone. I'm definitely going back.
