I've been traveling a lot lately, which means a lot of trips to Dongdaegu Station, so I've been checking out a bunch of restaurants near the station. I found a lamb skewer spot I really want to tell you about.

I'm someone who doesn't handle lamb well, and even I was super satisfied. My boyfriend said it was the best lamb skewer place he's ever had, haha. This is 'Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch,' a Dongdaegu Station lamb skewer restaurant where you can enjoy odor-free, delicious skewers with a beer.

How far is it from Dongdaegu Station?

Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch, a Dongdaegu Station lamb skewer restaurant, is only about a 10-minute walk from the station, so it's really accessible. The mint-colored sign stands out even from far away with its unique color. It's stylishly decorated even from the outside, making it a great fit for a date.

Interior atmosphere and seating

Clean and tidy overview of the restaurant hall

Here's the interior. It's decorated cleanly and romantically, which I really liked. A retro vibe that suits lamb skewers so well, haha. I saw quite a few couples on dates and also families out for dinner.

Private group room space inside

There are about 8 tables for four, and inside there's also this private group room space, so it would be great for group gatherings too.

What we ordered and prices

List of lamb skewer and Chinese dish menu items

You order using the tablet set up at each table. I noticed there are all kinds of dishes besides lamb skewers — from gwabaro (sweet and sour pork) to mapo tofu, a range of Chinese dishes. I'm definitely trying those next time.

But since lamb skewers were our goal, here's what we ordered. Beer is a must with lamb skewers!

  • Wang-yangkkochi (lamb skewers), 1 serving (210g) ₩18,000
  • Yangdeungsim skewers (lamb loin), 1 serving (210g) ₩23,000
  • Okmyeon (corn noodles) ₩8,000
  • Terra beer ₩5,000

Basic side dishes and chili, cumin, curry powder

First, pickled side dishes and peanuts that go well with lamb skewers came out as basic banchan.

Chili, cumin, and curry powder provided at the table

And every table has chili powder, cumin powder, and curry powder for dipping the lamb skewers. This was my first time seeing chili powder used this way, and I was curious — it went really well with the lamb.

Skewers grilled on a rotating charcoal grill

Rotating lamb skewer grill loaded with charcoal

Why does the lamb skewer grill look so aesthetic? They put charcoal into a grill full of character. The charcoal was still burning strong until the last skewer was done. They must use good charcoal, haha.

One serving of 8 wang-yangkkochi skewers before grilling

And then my lamb skewers arrived quickly! You could tell the meat quality was good just by looking. Each serving has 8 skewers, and there seemed to be way more meat per skewer than at other places! Ah, this looks so good~

Skewers placed to fit the holes in the grill

They line up each skewer's star shape to fit into the holes on the grill. That's what makes them rotate properly and cook nicely~ From this point, the smell of lamb skewers cooking over charcoal was so good that I was drooling while waiting…

The skewers spin round and round, cooking deliciously without needing to be flipped by hand — so convenient, haha. Get nice and golden brown~

Curry, cumin, and chili powder set up on the side plate

While they cooked, the sauces were set up on our plates in advance. From right to left: curry, cumin, chili powder.

Is wang-yangkkochi really free of gamey smell?

A bite of wang-yangkkochi grilled over charcoal

First, I tried the basic wang-yangkkochi. I was so surprised — I usually struggle with lamb because of its distinctive smell, but here, somehow, there was no gamey smell at all, and it was so delicious. The meat quality was great too, chewy yet tender, and with the charcoal aroma added, it was just so good.

Lamb skewer dipped in chili powder

And this chili powder is the kicker. It's tasty even just dipped in salt, but dipping it in this powder made it distinctly unique and addictive — I didn't get tired of it at all, haha.

Yangdeungsim skewers (lamb loin)

Close-up of tender yangdeungsim skewer

This one is the yangdeungsim skewer! Honestly, I don't know much about lamb cuts so I didn't notice a huge difference, but it felt somehow softer? Anyway, it was delicious…

Yangdeungsim skewer dipped in cumin powder

This time, I dipped it in cumin powder! I get why cumin comes to mind with lamb skewers — it was such a perfect combination, haha. My boyfriend loves cumin so much he basically showered his skewers in it.

We neatly finished one round and grilled the next! Watching the lamb skewers spin round and round felt oddly healing. Maybe it's because the smell was so delicious, haha. There was more meat than expected too, so two servings filled us up quite a bit.

A glass of beer enjoyed with the lamb skewers

Beer is essential with delicious lamb skewers! It was such a happy dinner.

Spicy okmyeon noodles on the side

A bowl of okmyeon in red spicy broth

And as a soup lover, I couldn't resist the okmyeon (corn noodles) dish. I think it's called okmyeon because it's made with corn noodles, haha.

The red broth looked spicy just by looking at it, exactly my style! And sure enough, the broth was really good. Just the right amount of spicy heat with a savory kick that went so well with the lamb skewers, which can be a bit rich.

I love corn noodles so much that I always add them to mala tang, and these were super chewy — I loved them. There's plenty of vegetables and meat too, so if you like red spicy broth, you have to order this!
