I recently visited Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang, which has been getting a lot of buzz lately as a dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew) specialist. It's also super accessible for anyone looking for a Korean restaurant near Jeju Airport, which made the trip there easy.

What are the drum-can tables and interior like in Nohyeong-dong?

From the outside, Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang immediately caught my eye with its retro drum-can sign.

Stepping inside, the retro-styled drum-can tables were arranged neatly, and I thought this would be a great spot for a work dinner or a group gathering too.

On one side, a neatly organized self-serve bar let you grab extra side dishes easily, and baby chairs were well set up for families with young kids. The tables were spaced generously and the whole place felt clean and comfortable to eat in.
What comes with the cauldron-lid chicken stew for two?

Once seated, I ordered the restaurant's signature dish: the cauldron-lid dakdoritang for two.

A little while later, the dakdoritang arrived piled high on a real, red-hot cauldron lid sitting atop a big drum can.

The huge cauldron lid came loaded with chicken, potatoes, onion and green onion — the visual alone was overwhelming. Basic toppings included quail eggs, chewy cheese rice cakes and king oyster mushrooms, so there was plenty of fun in picking through everything.

The basic side dishes — macaroni salad, dried radish strips, pickled mountain chili and kimchi — paired really well with the spicy-sweet broth too.
How does the staff-timed cauldron-lid cooking work, and how is the broth?
At Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang, staff check the cooking time with a timer, which made things convenient. As the burner heated up and the stew bubbled away, the heat from the cauldron lid reduced the broth into something deep and rich.

Once fully cooked, the dakdoritang was transferred into ready bowls so it was easy to eat.

The chicken had no gamey smell at all and was really tender and moist. The seasoning had soaked deep into the chicken and even into the potatoes, so every bite got a little gasp out of me.
The broth was very fiery but with excellent depth of flavor — great as a side with rice, but I could totally see why it's known as one of the go-to dakdoritang-and-drinks spots in Nohyeong-dong, because it really makes you want a drink. The longer it simmered, the deeper the flavor got, so it stayed warm and rich all the way through.
Is Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang worth a return visit in Jeju?

Being able to enjoy properly fiery Korean food along with this distinctive cauldron-lid vibe right in the middle of Jeju was a huge draw for me. From the quality of the chicken to the generous vegetables to the balance of the spicy seasoning, it was a fully satisfying meal.

Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang is close to Jeju Airport, so it's great to visit on your first or last day of a trip, and it's just as perfect for a regular night out with some drinks alongside good dakdoritang. I'd strongly recommend it as a Nohyeong-dong dakdoritang specialist to revisit anytime you're craving something spicy.
