Hallim soup restaurant with abalone soondubu: Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi
In short
Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is a haejangguk (hangover soup) and ttukbaegi (hot stone pot) restaurant a 5-minute walk from Hyeopjae Beach in Hallim, Jeju. After walking over from the beach, the writer shared bomal (sea snail) haejangguk, spicy abalone soondubu and Jeju black pork bulgogi, and the ox-bone broth simmered from dawn each day and the spicy side dishes stood out most. Kongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup) is summer-only and was missed this time, which is exactly why Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is worth a return visit.

I finally made it to Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi in Hyeopjae, Jeju! I spent the whole day worrying whether a typhoon was coming, but the weather turned out completely clear and sunny, like nothing was ever wrong. I'd planned to hit the beach with my sister for a mood reset, but she suddenly got tied up, so I just went ahead alone to Hyeopjae Beach first — then had dinner later with my sister and a friend! After enjoying the emerald water at Hyeopjae Beach, I walked over to this place, which is right within walking distance.

Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi apparently simmers its ox-bone broth fresh from early dawn every single day, giving it that deep, rich flavor! I'd highly recommend it whether you need a hearty meal while traveling or a proper hangover cure. Locals and travelers alike rave about this haejangguk (hangover soup) spot near Hyeopjae Beach in Jeju, so let me give you the honest rundown.

What the dining room feels like
The inside of Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi was super clean, and you could tell the owner puts a lot of care into it! There were even teams who seemed to stop by quickly during a work break, and takeout was available too. This is such a hidden gem!

What is on the menu at Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi?
The main menu includes Jeju Hyeopjae bomal haejangguk, spicy abalone soondubu, Jeju black pork bulgogi, Hanwoo seonji haejangguk, and abalone pollock soup — my mouth was watering just reading it. Sadly, kongguksu is a summer-only menu item, so I missed out this time. If you love kongguksu, definitely plan a summer visit.
How far is the walk from Hyeopjae Beach?
Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is just a 5-minute walk from Hyeopjae Beach! It's such a perfect route — play at the beach, then walk straight over for a meal — that it's ideal for anyone looking for good food near Hyeopjae. It's easy to find too, being so close to the beach, so even people with a poor sense of direction can spot it right away.

What we ordered at Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi
Jeju Hyeopjae bomal (sea snail) haejangguk: a deep, nutty broth that settles your stomach

The first thing I tried was the Jeju Hyeopjae bomal (sea snail) haejangguk. Bomal usually has a slightly bitter edge along with its savory richness, right? But this one had none of that bitterness at all! No fishy smell whatsoever — just a deep, clean broth that instantly cleared my sluggish stomach. If you drank the night before or just want a clean, gentle hangover soup, this is the main dish I'd recommend as a top haejangguk spot in Hallim.
Spicy abalone soondubu: sharp heat with chewy abalone

Next up was the spicy abalone soondubu (soft tofu stew), a fiery, rich broth base loaded with fresh, chewy abalone and soft tofu. The pleasantly spicy broth clung to my mouth in the best way — I couldn't stop reaching for more, a total rice thief. It's spicy just enough while the seafood flavor still shines through, so it'll hit the spot for anyone who loves that hot, savory kick.
Jeju black pork bulgogi: sweet-salty and made for the hot stone pot

Served alongside the soup dishes, the Jeju black pork bulgogi was a flawless match with the ttukbaegi (hot stone pot). The black pork had zero gamey smell and the sweet-salty seasoning was just delicious. They also give you a side of what looked like ox-bone broth to go with it — so clean and satisfying! Loved it.
Warm service and a summer menu worth coming back for

I'd originally wanted the refreshing kongguksu, but apparently the summer menu had already ended. The owner kindly explained, 'Our kongguksu is really good, it's a shame you missed it,' which made me realize I absolutely have to come back for it. With such friendly service on top of great food, I'm definitely returning in summer for the kongguksu!
***Note*** The side dishes are delicious!! **********
Is Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi worth a visit?

Just keep in mind that seasonal dishes like kongguksu need good timing to catch! The owner's warm welcome and the carefully simmered broth were both wonderful. If you're looking for a hearty breakfast or a proper hangover-curing meal, definitely stop by. And the side dishes are the real kicker — maybe it's the pepper, but the spicy banchan (side dishes) were so good!
Touched by the hospitality and won over by the deep flavor of homemade ox-bone broth — this is the real haejangguk near Hyeopjae Beach!!
