How is the kimchi stew at Bapjangin?

A pot of spicy kimchi stew

I got the kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), and the broth was spicy without being overwhelming — perfect with rice.

The kimchi was tasty too, and once I mixed rice into the broth I couldn't stop going back for more, haha. That's the thing with Korean food like this — looks simple but when it's good, a whole bowl of rice disappears in no time. Pairing it with the side dishes made it even better.

I also had sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) and steamed egg alongside it, and both were great too. The steamed egg was soft and warm, going nicely with the stew, and the sundubu broth worked well too.

Ordering a few things together instead of just one dish made for a much richer meal. We also got Spam, which turned out to be a surprisingly good extra. It was fried so nicely that eating it with rice was genuinely delicious, haha.

Picking what to eat at the Express Bus Terminal can be surprisingly tricky, but this time I was in the mood for stew, so I stopped by. The sundubu jjigae had soft tofu in it, giving a completely different feel from the kimchi jjigae. Ordering several dishes to share meant we could try a bit of everything without getting bored.

And honestly, the Spam was better than I expected, haha. I thought it'd just be a basic add-on, but it was fried up golden and delicious with rice. A spoonful of rice with kimchi jjigae broth topped with Spam is such a great combo. Adding the steamed egg on top mellowed out the spicy stew flavor, so I kept going back for more.
