September is technically fall but it was still hot 🥵 I wanted something cold, but not naengmyeon (cold noodles) — I was thinking about what else could hit the spot when the combo of cold udon and tonkatsu came to mind. So I visited Kosi Seongsu Branch 🙌🏻

It's close to Exit 6 of Ttukseom Station. I came by car and parked right in front of the store!

Visiting at 2pm — was there a wait, and what were the seats like?

The interior was made up of counter seats, window seats, and table seats 🪑 I came around 2pm, a bit past the lunch rush, so I got in with no wait ☺️

There's a kiosk at each table, and you prepay right after ordering!

We ordered like this, as a rice + noodle combo

About 10 minutes after ordering, the bukkake udon set came out first — with the tonkatsu add-on it looked even more generous 😆

Toriten bukkake udon: cold udon mixed with chilled tsuyu

🍥 Toriten bukkake udon is cold udon made with chewy Shinshu noodles mixed with cold tsuyu (dipping sauce), topped with big, crispy fried chicken thigh pieces

They serve the tsuyu separately (probably to keep the noodles chewy?), along with scallions, grated radish, and tempura flakes on the side

The bukkake udon's chewy texture was exactly to my liking. The bouncy, springy bite that's characteristic of udon noodles really came through, and it got better the more I chewed 😋 I'm normally more of a cold soba or naengmyeon person, but this cold udon at Kosi was honestly a big win for me personally 🥳

The tsuyu sauce was clean but savory, so it was never overwhelming — I just kept eating. It had a different kind of appeal than the usual udon fully soaked in broth, and I really liked that

Is the ₩5,000 tonkatsu add-on worth it?

Adding the tonkatsu was really the right call. The outside was crispy and the loin was juicy. The cold udon's clean flavor balanced out the richness of the tonkatsu, so eating them together was a great combination. If udon alone feels a little light and you want a heartier meal, I'd definitely recommend adding the tonkatsu 🙌🏻

Gyudon set and the sweet potato cheese croquette from the receipt review

The gyudon (beef rice bowl) came out right after. It arrives with warm udon broth and a salad, and if you leave a Naver receipt review, you can choose from several side dishes — we asked for the sweet potato cheese croquette 😊

I ate the sweet potato cheese croquette last, almost like a dessert — the outside was crispy and the inside was packed with soft sweet potato mousse, and it was really delicious

The gyudon had beef and seasoning that went really well together over the rice. The seasoning wasn't too strong or sharp — more the kind of flavor that pairs nicely with rice, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy. Eating the meat and rice together was filling too, so overall it was a satisfying meal 💓

Overall thoughts on Kosi Seongsu Branch

Overall, the food at Kosi Seongsu Branch came out looking clean and well put together, and the portions were plenty for a full meal. If you're looking for somewhere filling for lunch or dinner in Seongsu, this seems like a solid choice. The chewy noodles in the bukkake udon were especially good, so if you like udon noodles, I'd recommend trying the bukkake udon — and if you like tonkatsu too, add it on. Next time I visit, I'd like to try one of the warm udon menus 🍜

++ Also, the staff were really kind 😳 We came as a party of two, and once a table freed up, they moved us to a four-person table without us even asking. Such a thoughtful, kind touch 👍🏻👍🏻✨ This is a place I'd want to come back to whenever I want a Japanese-style meal in Seongsu :)
