Hapjeong café with window seats and green grape mosto: Central Site

In short

Central Site Hapjeong is a roastery café in Mapo, Seoul, a 30-second walk from Exit 2 of Hapjeong Station, where you choose your own beans. Told we prefer coffee with no acidity, the owner recommended the Colombia Campo Hermoso Grape Mosto and the Guatemala Entre Volcanes Washed, and the Colombia tasted so strongly of green grapes that both of us stared at our cups. The signature tiramisu at Central Site Hapjeong is cheese-heavy and moist, and it paired especially well with the Guatemala.

Beyond the main menu, they really do carry a huge variety of coffee. If you love coffee, this place will make you lose your mind — in a good way!

What does the café look like inside?

Inside Central Site Hapjeong, the whole front is a wall of windows, so the sunlight pours in beautifully. Remember the old mobile game 'I Love Coffee'? It looks like the kind of interior straight out of that. The menu lineup is clearly built for people who genuinely love coffee. Personally, it was totally my style :)

Bar seats and window counter good for working on a laptop

There were customers working on laptops at the bar seats and window counter. We sat at the window seats on the opposite side, and with the sunlight streaming in and the peaceful atmosphere, it was so nice. My boyfriend took some photos of me there and they came out great.

How do you pick your beans at Central Site Hapjeong?

Display of various single-origin beans

The real charm of Central Site Hapjeong is the huge variety of beans — it's genuinely fun picking what to try. If you're clueless like me, just ask the owner for a recommendation! Neither of us likes acidic coffee, and when we mentioned that, the owner recommended two options.

The two beans recommended by the owner

Colombia Campo Hermoso Grape Mosto: green grape in a cup

One was the Colombia Campo Hermoso Caturra Honey Grape Mosto Co-fermentation.

Colombia Campo Hermoso Grape Mosto beans
A cup of Colombia grape mosto drip coffee

From a farm in Colombia's Cauca region, grape mosto is used during fermentation to gently layer in grape aroma and acidity. Just as the owner said, the Colombia bean really did have an intense fruit aroma. It was such a novel flavor for a coffee — the first time I'd tasted anything like it. Both of us drank it and our eyes went round — it genuinely tasted like green grapes.

Guatemala Entre Volcanes Washed beans

Guatemala Entre Volcanes Washed: familiar, but deeper

The other was the Guatemala Entre Volcanes Washed, made from beans grown collectively by small farms around San Miguel Dueñas in Antigua, processed washed. The Guatemala was closer to the coffee flavor we're all familiar with, just richer and better. I know almost nothing about coffee, but I could tell this one was genuinely delicious.

The ice really stood out — a big, chunky square cube went in, and just visually it was gorgeous. Since it melts slowly, the flavor stays consistent for longer too, which I loved. Kind of felt like drinking whiskey almost..

Bean description card served alongside the coffee

They also gave us a card describing each bean, and reading it while drinking made the flavors land even better. I think that was basically the first time I've ever had a conversation centered entirely on how a coffee tastes(?)

How was the signature tiramisu?

A forkful showing the moist tiramisu layers

Tiramisu is the main dessert at Central Site Hapjeong. Unfortunately I really dislike cheese, so my boyfriend ate my share too. The tiramisu is quite large, and the cheese ratio is high. Dark chocolate on top adds a bitter edge that he said made it even better. According to him, it was so moist and soft it just melted in his mouth.

Since the tiramisu is quite sweet, it paired really well with the bitter coffee. Personally, I felt the Guatemala matched the tiramisu even better!

Is Central Site Hapjeong worth a visit?

Closing shot of enjoying coffee by the window

If you're looking for a café near Hapjeong Station, I'd recommend Central Site Hapjeong. There's a wide variety of beans, so it's fun to pick according to your taste, and if you ask the owner for a recommendation, you really can't go wrong.

You can tell this is a café that's genuinely serious about coffee. The tiramisu lives up to its status as a signature too — rich and moist, and great alongside coffee. If you want to relax with coffee by the window, or you just love coffee and happen to be near Hapjeong Station, go check it out~!
