A Hapjeong pub with great craft beer — #GipeunSup

Down an alley in Hapjeong-dong, down a staircase, and suddenly the noise of the city disappears — that's Gipeun Sup (깊은숲), the hidden spot I visited.

True to its name, which means "deep forest," the place felt like a cozy hideout, with warm dim lighting and wood-heavy interiors that added real warmth.

Sipping a glass while soft music drifted through the room, I found myself able to focus completely on the person across from me instead of the chaos of daily life — really charming.

Here's my record of a quiet, atmospheric evening at Gipeun Sup in Hapjeong that I almost wanted to keep to myself 🕯️🍷✨

Where is Gipeun Sup in Hapjeong, and what are the hours and parking?

Gipeun Sup is located in the basement level of 27 Dokmak-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Hours are Tuesday–Thursday 18:00 to 01:00, Friday 18:00 to 02:00, Saturday 17:00 to 02:00, and Sunday 17:00 to 24:00, closed every Monday. Reservations and free Wi-Fi are available.

Parking is difficult at Gipeun Sup, sadly. If you need parking, try Hapjeong Street Public Parking Lot or Hapjeong 2 Public Parking Lot!

But by subway, it's super close.

• 5-minute walk from Hapjeong Station exits 5 and 6
• 10-minute walk from Sangsangmadang Hongdae
• 3-minute walk from Seongsan Middle School

Inside Gipeun Sup: a basement room with a projector and a piano

Inside, Gipeun Sup is a basement space with wood interiors, calm lighting, and soft music playing throughout. There's a projector on one side and a piano right in the middle of the room.

The atmosphere was really great! The projector on one side actually added to the mood, I think.

There was a piano right in the center of the store, which gave it an antique kind of feel.

Being a pub, of course there's a great variety of drinks prepared, and on the right side of the photo there was a shiny little lizard living there — pretty fascinating haha. It apparently bites, so obviously we didn't pet it, but let's just enjoy it with our eyes ^^

Gipeun Sup menu: craft beer, cocktails and whisky

I thought Gipeun Sup only served drinks, but there was actually a good variety of food too, and the cocktail lineup was huge — beer, short-drink cocktails, long-drink cocktails, all sorts.

I liked that each menu item lists its ABV next to it (it's a bit awkward to ask every time, right? haha)

There's wine too, and whisky in blended, malt, and bourbon varieties, so it seems like a good spot for a group as well.

After ordering food and drinks, the basic snack that came out was a pretzel! I actually found it surprisingly good — savory and salty.

Guinness vs Duck Duck Goose: how different do they taste?

The two beers I picked at Gipeun Sup were Guinness (₩10,000) and Duck Duck Goose (₩10,000). Guinness was a rich stout, while Duck Duck Goose was a bright, easy-drinking ale.

Guinness is basically the poster child of stouts, right?! The taste was exactly what you'd expect — the deep, rich stout flavor came through clearly.

Duck Duck Goose was a bright ale — "bright" doesn't mean high acidity exactly, more like a light, refreshing drinkability. I'd recommend it to women in particular.

Pane seafood cream tteokbokki: how big is the portion?

The pane seafood cream tteokbokki (rice cake stir-fry baked in bread) at Gipeun Sup is ₩24,000. To anyone thinking of ordering this, I have to say — it's seriously huge. The bowl is basically the size of a wash basin.

It was packed with a variety of seafood — mussels, shrimp, squid — and the cream sauce tasted exactly like carbonara! Ate the tteokbokki, then dipped the pane bread in the sauce too, carbo-loading carpet-bombed my blood sugar, and went home like that...

Who is Gipeun Sup in Hapjeong best for?

With music that wraps around your ears comfortably, clean drinks, and a cozy sense of space, all three elements were perfectly in place at Gipeun Sup in Hapjeong — I wanted to stay a long time.

It's not too loud, so it's hard to think of a better place for a deep, unhurried conversation or to wrap up your day at ease (personally, I'd recommend it for a date).

If you're near Hapjeong Station or Sangsu looking for an atmospheric, low-key bar or wine bar, or want to spend a romantic night with someone special, I highly recommend Gipeun Sup!
