Gongdeok café closing-time tray of 7 baked goods: Fluffy Bake Shop

In short

Fluffy Bake Shop is a baked-goods café on Baekbeom-ro 31-gil near Gongdeok Station in Mapo, Seoul. Arriving just before closing, the writer found the Dubai egg tart, chestnut madeleine and salt bread sold out, but still filled a tray with an egg tart, an Earl Grey canelé, yuzu and lemon madeleines, and almond, fig and apple churros financiers to take away. To get the flavors you actually want at Fluffy Bake Shop, an early visit is essential.

What is the shop like inside?

I stumbled onto Fluffy Bake Shop while wandering near Gongdeok Station :) The sign with a shell-shaped madeleine caught my eye — no extra text, just a simple exterior that somehow felt even cuter for it.

Once inside, the space itself wasn't huge, and seating wasn't plentiful, but most people seemed to be there for takeout, so it also felt like a decent spot to sit alone with a coffee and work on a laptop!

Drink menu and prices at Fluffy Bake Shop

The drink menu ranged from coffee to tea to ades, and ordering coffee as takeout got you a ₩1,000 discount. Overall, the café's prices didn't feel like much of a burden.

What is left in the pastry case right before closing?

The system was to pick what you wanted onto a tray yourself. The case was neatly arranged, so it was fun to browse through the different pastries one by one.

Flower-shaped egg tarts on display

I'd heard Fluffy Bake Shop is famous for its Dubai egg tart, so I was curious, but visiting right before closing meant it was sold out. The regular egg tart was still there though, shaped like a flower — pretty just to look at.

With fall arriving, I was also curious about the seasonal chestnut madeleine, but that too was sold out — unfortunate. Instead, there was a raspberry madeleine left, heart-shaped with a pink chocolate coating, which made me want to buy it on sight.

Earl Grey, chocolate, and vanilla canelés on display

There seemed to be three types of canelé: Earl Grey, chocolate, and vanilla. The prices weren't intimidating either, so it was easy to pick one based on preference.

The madeleine lineup was really extensive — lemon, blue cheese, hallabong, espresso pecan, chocolate, plain, black sesame, Earl Grey, and yuzu were all on offer. When I visited though, a lot of them were sold out, and prices were mostly in the ₩3,000s, so it seemed easy to enjoy without much of a burden.

The financier lineup was just as varied, but again, a lot were sold out, which was a bit disappointing. I figured if I really wanted to pick exactly what I wanted, I'd need to come earlier next time.

Various financiers on display

Just looking at the financiers on display, you could tell — chewy outside, moist inside.

Besides the pastries, the salt bread is famous here too, but when I visited, it was all sold out as well.

Pastry case emptying out near closing time

By the time I finished packing my order, the entire case was sold out. Maybe because it was around after-work hours, quite a few people were coming in for takeout too. If there's something specific you want, I'd recommend visiting early to pack it up.

Pastries picked onto a tray

Still, I managed to pick out a mix of whatever was left, and before I knew it, the tray was full. Egg tart, canelé, madeleines, financiers — I grabbed a bit of everything, and each one looked so pretty that just seeing them made me happy.

How to store the pastries and what gift boxes are available

Madeleines and financiers apparently keep for about 2–3 days in a cool spot, or 2 weeks if sealed and frozen. Canelés are recommended to be kept frozen. Gift packaging comes in 4-piece, 6-piece, and 15-piece options, and the packaging itself was clean and pretty enough to work well as a gift.

Also, if you write a Naver receipt review, they give you a vanilla canelé — worth joining that review event too.

How do the baked goods at Fluffy Bake Shop taste?

The basic packaging is individually wrapped first, then placed in a paper bag, and overall it looked clean. It'd photograph nicely to carry around, and the tidy packaging seemed like it would work well as a gift, or even to bring along on a picnic.

The first thing I tried after packing everything up was the chocolate financier! One bite in, it was chewy yet soft, with a rich, deep chocolate sweetness — I think it'd pair well with coffee or milk.

Egg tart, Earl Grey canelé, yuzu madeleine, lemon madeleine, almond financier, fig financier, apple churros financier. With so many different shapes and colors, each one was fun to examine on its own — and tasting them, the flavor and texture matched the looks, each with its own charm. I could see why this place is such a go-to for pastries near Gongdeok Station.

Seven pastries laid out after being brought home

Lemon madeleine and yuzu madeleine

The lemon and yuzu madeleines had a really soft, moist texture that stood out. The icing on top wasn't too thick, so instead of overwhelming sweetness, you got a subtle, refreshing citrus and yuzu aroma and flavor. Good for eating one lightly at a time.

The flower-shaped egg tart

The flower-shaped egg tart looked delicious just from its visual. The pastry outside had a crisp, flaky bite, and the filling inside was soft and moist, coming together into something sweet yet nutty and delicious.

Earl Grey canelé

The Earl Grey canelé had a slightly firm, crisp exterior, and once you got inside, it was chewy and moist. The subtle Earl Grey aroma made it more fragrant to enjoy than a regular canelé.

Pastries and coffee from Fluffy Bake Shop

When I visited, a lot of the menu was already sold out, so I'd recommend heading over a bit earlier than I did. This is a place where it's fun to pack up pretty pastries as a gift or try one after another alongside coffee, so next time I want to come early and try out even more of the menu.
