Kids' day out at a Paju bakery café: 4:10pm train and pound cake, On

The weather was so nice on the weekend that I went looking for a bakery café in Paju I could take the kids to. Since we'd be starting late after their nap, I searched mainly for places with big outdoor spaces so we wouldn't feel rushed!

Wow... and this place turned out to be amazing! You can actually watch a real train pass right beside you — such a unique sight. Let me tell you about our trip to On the Rail, a perfect outing spot near Imjingak where the kids got to watch trains go by.

Do trains really pass the windows at On the Rail?

On the Rail is a railway-view bakery café at 25 Imjingak-ro, Munsan-eup, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. On the train schedule posted next to the counter, it said a train passes on weekends at 4:10pm.

True to a Paju bakery café, the entrance had a clean white tone and a real train-station feel. It's famous among Munsan spots for its railway view, so I walked in already excited.

Right by the counter was a handy train schedule! We arrived around 3:30pm, and it said the weekend train passes at 4:10pm.

We went outside right on time and waited, and sure enough — a train came chugging by right in front of us. The kids loved it so much, haha.

This place really commits to the train-station concept — there's even a fully decorated railway photo zone outside, perfect for pictures.

What bakery items and signature drinks does On the Rail serve?

On the Rail's bakery lineup ranges from salt bread and red bean butter croissants to meal breads like basil tomato. Pound cake slices are ₩4,500, available in flavors like hwang cheese, Earl Grey, and chocolate.

As they say, food first, sightseeing later — so we started shopping for bread, and there were way more options than I expected. From freshly baked salt bread to sweet red bean butter croissants, everything looked delicious, which made it hard to choose.

What especially caught my eye were the cute cookies and neatly packaged pound cake slices — at ₩4,500 each, a reasonable price to enjoy without guilt. It was fun picking flavors like hwang cheese, Earl Grey, and chocolate to suit our taste.

By past 3pm on the weekend, quite a lot of bread had already sold out — a sign of how popular this Paju bakery café is. Seems like you'd need to come early to catch the popular items :)

There were also meal-type breads like basil tomato, and the croissants looked especially crisp outside and soft inside — very tempting.

The refrigerated section had tarts and cakes piled high with fresh fruit — the figs and shine muscat grapes looked really plump!

One shelf had cookie gift sets and cute little items on display, which was fun to browse.

We ordered an iced Americano, the café's signature Einspänner, and a piece of bread. The cocoa powder spelling out 'ON THE RAIL' on top of the Einspänner was a nice touch! The cream was thick and sweet — perfect sugar recharge.

The outdoor terrace and railway photo zone with kids

On the Rail's outdoor terrace faces the open railway view, and on cool days it was even more popular than the indoor seats. With a wide grassy lawn and walking paths, there were a lot of families with kids.

Maybe because the weather was cool and pleasant, the outdoor terrace seats were in high demand. Sipping coffee while looking out at the open railway view... isn't that exactly what weekend healing looks like?

There are vintage props scattered outside, like an old jeep and train-station signs, so you can get a great shot no matter where you stand!

There's a wide lawn and walking path that's great for kids to run around in, which explains why so many families come here. It's about a 10–13 minute walk from Imjingang Station, so it's easy enough to visit even if you're getting around by train.

Why On the Rail in Paju is prettier after dark

On the Rail is also known as a late-night café in Paju, open until 2am. String lights are set up in the outdoor area, and I imagine the whole mood changes completely once they're switched on at night.

We couldn't stay late because of the kids, but seeing the outdoor string lights, I could picture what the night scene would look like. The atmosphere must be incredible — this would make a great date spot. Perfect for a drive around Imjingak followed by a late coffee here, right?
