Gangnam Korean BBQ for two: beef rib meat 4 servings for ₩50,000

It's been a while since I had a good dinner in Gangnam with a friend! This time we visited Bongu Hwarro (봉우화로). Perfect spot for a day when you want to eat a ton of meat in the middle of Gangnam without breaking the bank, so I'm bringing you my review.

Finding Bongu Hwarro from Gangnam Station

Bongu Hwarro is a quick walk from Gangnam Station! It's a great place to meet a friend around Gangnam Station, go on a date, or have a company dinner, and it's especially easy to find from the alley behind the CGV. From the outside, it had both the feel of an old-school meat restaurant and a clean, tidy atmosphere. Knowing it's been loved in the same spot for 20 years made me look forward to it even more!

Interior atmosphere and seating

Walking inside, the place was huge with a lot of tables set up. Customers ranged from friends having dinner to groups doing company dinners or gatherings, and overall it had a really clean, tidy Korean BBQ restaurant vibe!

Since you grill the meat yourself on the charcoal grill at the table, there's the fun of grilling it yourself, and the sizzling smell of meat cooking made me hungrier the moment I sat down haha. It seemed like a comfortable place to visit with a friend, and also good for a bigger group eating meat near Gangnam Station.

Menu, prices, and 50% off extra meat

First, if you order meat to match your headcount at first, any additional meat you order comes at 50% off! This would be super satisfying if you bring guy friends who really eat a lot!! The meat is priced in the mid ₩10,000s too, so the value is great — they have beef rib meat, pork belly, Iberico pork neck, raw beef tartare, and more, so come hungry!!

If you visit for lunch, the lunch menu is also great value :) Bibimbap and dwenjang stew (soybean paste stew) with beef brisket are both under ₩10,000!🤩 We ordered 4 servings of beef rib meat with dwenjang stew and rice. With a zero-sugar cola, it came to a total of ₩50,000!

Banchan with soy-marinated crab and pink sausage

First up, the basic banchan (side dishes)! So generous, right?>< What I especially loved was that soy-marinated crab was included as a basic side dish! And there was nostalgic pink sausage too, which made me weirdly happy haha. Along with these, there were various other side dishes like green onion kimchi and spicy radish salad, so it was fun mixing them with the meat in different combinations.

One free Hangang ramyeon per person

Since we each got one free Hangang ramyeon (ramen), my friend grilled the meat while I boiled the ramyeon! Need I say more, it was so, so good — there was even barley shrimp powder, so I added a spoonful, and it basically turned into a seafood ramyeon!! haha

How was the beef rib meat?

The main dish of the day was beef rib meat! From the moment it arrived, the seasoning looked so appetizingly soaked in, and I was already excited. As soon as it hit the grill, it started sizzling and this sweet, savory aroma burst up — really hard to resist when you're actually hungry haha. Since it's thin, beef rib meat cooks quickly, so we didn't have to wait long before digging in.

The meat was really tender, with no chewy feeling at all — just soft to bite into. With the soft texture unique to thin beef rib meat and the seasoning soaked in well, it was delicious with rice, and the combination with the side dishes was great too.

We finished our first 2 servings almost instantly, and since there was the 50%-off extra order event, we immediately added more — 2 more servings of beef rib meat! Being able to add the same meat at half price made me really feel this is one of the best-value spots among Gangnam Station restaurants.

Dwenjang stew with rice combination

Eating meat, rice is a must, so we added dwenjang stew with beef brisket and a bowl of rice too. Eating a spoonful of warm stew while eating meat felt really satisfying. The sweet seasoning of the beef rib meat went well with the savory, salty flavor of the dwenjang stew. Putting a piece of beef rib meat on rice along with the spicy radish salad was such a delicious combination too!><

Bongu Hwarro, which we visited this time, is a place I'd really recommend to anyone looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant near Gangnam Station!
