Why a branch regular made the trip to the flagship

I really love gopchang (grilled beef small intestine), and the place I usually go to is Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang's branch location. I love it so much it's basically my favorite gopchang spot ever, but this time I got the chance to visit the Garak Flagship through a Superchart tasting campaign, so I went in curious about how the flagship would compare.

Even under the same name, the atmosphere can differ a bit from branch to branch. So this time I was genuinely excited just to see the flagship in person, not only for the food.

Arriving at 5 PM, before the place filled up

We got there a bit early, around 5 PM. Since it was before the dinner rush, there weren't many customers when we first walked in, so the atmosphere was fairly relaxed. That let us sit comfortably, take some photos, and start our meal slowly.

But a good restaurant is a good restaurant, I guess. As we ate, more and more groups kept coming in, and before long the place got pretty busy. I was glad we'd come early.

The gopchang I'd been waiting for finally arrives! 🤤 One of the biggest reasons I love Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang is its savory flavor. Watching it grill up golden brown, the waiting was the hardest part lol. They grill and cut it themselves with a timer set!!

Taking a bite of the well-grilled gopchang, it was exactly the flavor I'd been expecting! Golden and crisp outside, savory and chewy inside — I kept reaching for more. Gopchang can get greasy if you're not careful, but the side dishes here helped refresh the palate along the way.

I also tried the kimchi and other side dishes that are a must at any gopchang restaurant — putting a piece of kimchi on top of a bite of gopchang worked really well together. I personally love that combo, so I kept picking up kimchi while eating.

Finishing with kkakdugi yangbap

🍚 And finally, of course, kkakdugi yangbap (radish kimchi fried rice)! After eating enough gopchang, you always start thinking about fried rice, right? Here they finish it off not with plain fried rice, but with kkakdugi yangbap.

The savory fat from the gopchang combined with the tangy, crunchy kkakdugi (radish kimchi) surprisingly well. The crunchy bits of kkakdugi in particular kept it from feeling greasy, so I kept eating.

Even though I was already pretty full from the gopchang, somehow the fried rice still found room lol. It's savory, slightly spicy, and full of umami — I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who likes finishing gopchang with fried rice.

Personally, I feel like a meal isn't complete unless you finish with the kkakdugi yangbap rather than stopping at just the gopchang! I'll definitely order this again next time 🤤

Parking at Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Garak Flagship: free for 2 hours

One thing I really appreciated about the Garak Flagship is how easy parking is! If you're driving, you can use the Seongwon Chatevil commercial parking lot, which gives you 2 hours free, so you don't have to worry about parking while you eat. Sometimes going out for gopchang comes with parking stress, so I really liked this about the place.

If you're planning to drive like I did, this is good to know.

Would I go back for beef gopchang in Garak-dong?

If you're looking for a good gopchang restaurant in Garak-dong or want to properly try Garak-dong beef gopchang, this place is worth a visit. And if you're already a fan of Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang like me, it's worth checking out the flagship at least once just to see how it compares.

In short, if I had to describe this place in one line: "The gopchang restaurant that made a branch-location regular travel all the way to the flagship!" If you love gopchang, you'll understand why it stays on your mind. Next time I'm craving gopchang in Garak-dong, I think I'll be back :)
