On days like these with such a big temperature swing, my body just feels sluggish, and I start craving something warm but filling.

So this time I went looking for a place where I could have a good meal and actually take care of my body.

Hanyang Dak Kalguksu, a comfort food restaurant in Garak-dong

The place I visited is Hanyang Dak Kalguksu, a restaurant specializing in comfort food!

Found while looking for good restaurants in Garak-dong

Hanyang Dak Kalguksu is a restaurant centered on dishes made with chicken.

What impressed me was that this isn't just a place to eat a bowl of hot broth — a lot of care clearly goes into the ingredients and the cooking process.

In particular, they use 100% chicken broth simmered for over 12 hours, so my expectations for the broth were even higher. Knowing the broth is carefully simmered for that long, even one bowl felt like a proper restorative meal.

Handmade noodles aged 48 hours at low temperature

The kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) were also special. They make their own noodles from dough aged at low temperature for over 48 hours.

Since the noodles are handmade, I was looking forward to the texture, and what I liked most was that they didn't sit heavy on my stomach at all.

Ordered chogye mul naengmyeon and samgye kalguksu

That day I ordered chogye mul naengmyeon and samgye kalguksu.

I picked one hot dish and one cold dish so I could really experience the appeal of both, haha.

Chogye mul naengmyeon and samgye kalguksu served together

First, the chogye mul naengmyeon is a great choice for something cool and refreshing! The cold broth and noodles paired with chicken made for an easy, light bite, and alternating with the hot samgye kalguksu made for a great combo.

And then the samgye kalguksu I'd been looking forward to! The deep, savory flavor of the chicken broth was impressive as expected. With tender chicken and kalguksu noodles in the warm broth, one bowl alone felt quite filling.

The texture of the handmade noodles was especially good. They blended so naturally with the broth that once I started eating noodles and then taking a spoonful of broth, I couldn't stop, haha.

Even the kimchi is made fresh every day

Kimchi really matters at a kalguksu restaurant, and Hanyang Dak Kalguksu makes their kimchi fresh in-store every day.

Need I even say how well kalguksu and kimchi go together~

Eating the crisp, clean kimchi alongside made the broth and noodles taste even better, and bite after bite I kept reaching for more.

A meal where you could really feel the care

Looking closely at the 100% chicken broth simmered over 12 hours, the handmade noodles aged over 48 hours, and the kimchi made fresh every day, I understood why this is a restaurant specializing in comfort food.

I felt this is a place that suits you well when you want something warm and filling but easy on the stomach, rather than just a meal to fill your belly.
