1+1 whole chicken combo near Yatap Station: Jangjakkun Yatap
In short
Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch is an oak-fired whole chicken and beer restaurant in the Yatap Station food alley in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. Two friends visited right after work on a weekday and ordered the 1+1 whole chicken combo, sharing an herbal scorched-rice chicken and a spicy seasoned scorched-rice chicken sizzling on a stone plate. A short walk from Yatap Station Exit 1, right after work
I had a weekday evening plan, so I ended up finding my way to this Yatap favorite, Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch. It's located not far from Yatap Station Exit 1, so even without a car I got there easily and quickly.
Unlike the rowdy rodeo-style bar streets you find in some of Seoul's main food alleys, the Yatap Station food alley has a clean, pleasant street atmosphere — a genuinely safe, tidy environment for drinks, gatherings, or company dinners. Since I left work at 5pm and headed straight over, the place was still bright and lively when I arrived.

The wood-fired rotisserie grill at the entrance
Arriving quickly, the first thing I saw at this Yatap chicken favorite, Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch, was a huge wood-fired rotisserie grill right at the entrance — and yes, the chicken I'd be eating today was cooked right there haha. You get a first coat of that delicious smell before you even walk in.
(Besides the rotisserie grill itself, there was also a huge pile of firewood stacked to one side.)

I tend to prefer roasted chicken over fried chicken, but these days it's not easy to find places serving it that way, so I was genuinely thrilled when I heard Jangjakkun had opened haha. And on top of that, paired with scorched rice? Is there a better drinking snack out there?

Two of us visiting: recommending the 1+1 whole chicken combo

There were two of us, and since it was one chicken per person, I went with the ongoing 1+1 discount combo of two whole chickens. We ordered the herbal scorched-rice chicken (hanbang nurungji tongdak) and the spicy seasoned scorched-rice chicken (maekomyangnyeom nurungji tongdak).
Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch is known for serving its perfectly roasted whole chicken on a sizzling stone plate, with scorched rice (nurungji) pressed on and cooked alongside as the specialty. The nutty, crispy texture of that scorched rice is genuinely great, so if you visit, make sure to get the scorched rice version~!

The complimentary chicken porridge that comes after ordering
After we ordered, they brought out complimentary chicken porridge on the house. (I was surprised at how much actual chicken meat was packed into that porridge, and the seasoning and flavor were so gentle it must have been simmered with real care for a long time.) (It was the perfect little something to nibble on while waiting for the main dishes!)
And finally, the main dishes arrive 🫶

The stone plate stays hot until you're done taking all your photos
From the kitchen all the way to our table, and even while I spent ages taking photos, the heat just would not let up... honestly impressive. I love dishes served hot, especially the ones in stone pots or on stone plates that stay hot till the last bite, and the stone-plate grill at this Yatap favorite, Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch, held its heat and temperature for a really long time. Even after all my photo-taking and video-taking chaos, it was still sizzling away!! That said, don't worry — it's not so scalding hot that it's hard to actually eat.
Crispy roasted skin, juicy chicken breast, and underneath it all, the scorched rice bubbling away and turning crisp.

Honestly, the kind of flavor that just makes the beer flow.
Herbal vs. spicy seasoned — which one's better?
The mild, nutty herbal scorched-rice chicken versus the sweet and spicy seasoned scorched-rice chicken. If you ask me which one's better, I absolutely cannot choose,
Since today made me want to try all the other menu items I haven't had yet, I've decided my next spontaneous dinner with coworkers is happening at Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch. I'll try the rest of the menu then and post another review! (For now, both of these two were delicious.)

Both of the dishes I ordered are main, staple, signature items at Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch, so if you're going, it's worth trying both. One chicken per person is very doable for grown adults, so order a variety and enjoy.
