Aewol noodle restaurant: 1pm waitlist, end window seat at Handam Guksu

I went to Jeju recently:) I was craving the pork noodle soup Jeju is famous for and while looking for good spots, I heard there was a real gem in Aewol, so here's my review after visiting😊

Where is Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, and where do you park?

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is located near the Aewol café street! Handam Beach is nearby too, so it's a great spot to stop by while sightseeing around Aewol.

Parking is always a worry when visiting restaurants or attractions in Jeju, but Handam Guksu made that easy👍 There's space to park right in front of the shop, and using the nearby Aewol Handam Parking Lot or Handam Coastal Trail Parking Lot gets you 1 hour of parking support😊

I used Handam Coastal Trail Parking Lot, which is about a 5-minute walk to the restaurant, and it was spacious and convenient💛

How long is the wait at 1pm, and what is the dining room like?

There's a big sign out front so it's easy to find the place. I visited past 1pm, and sure enough, being a popular spot, there was a wait. I registered on the waiting machine at the shop and sat on the chairs set up out front while waiting;) Luckily I didn't have to wait too long before getting in!

There are baby chairs available too, so it looks like it wouldn't be inconvenient to come with a baby.

What's at the self-serve bar? Even hair ties

There's a self-serve bar on one side of the shop where you can help yourself to as many side dishes as you like. There was tableware for babies and scissors and tongs too!

One more thing that impressed me was the hair ties!!! Ladies, you've probably had that annoying moment at a noodle place because of your hair, right? Hair ties were available at the self-serve bar, so it was convenient. Such a nice touch..🤍

The inside of the restaurant has a warm wood interior and is surrounded by full-length windows, so it's nice to eat while taking in the Jeju scenery.

I sat at the very end seat, and it had this ocean view right outside the window🥰

Getting to enjoy the gorgeous scenery while waiting for the food was killing two birds with one stone😉

Handam Guksu's menu and how tablet ordering works

You order through the tablet on the table!

The noodle menu includes beef bone broth pork noodles, dongchimi bibim noodles, and mala pork noodles, and there's also lean pork rice soup! It's nice that there's an option even for people who aren't into noodles.

There are also boiled pork slices, tteokgalbi, and pork mandu as side dishes, so it's nice that there's plenty to feed a baby too.

What do the dongchimi bibim noodles and beef bone broth pork noodles taste like?

We ordered the dongchimi bibim noodles and the beef bone broth pork noodles.

First, the basic side dishes came out! Once you finish these, you can refill from the self-serve bar mentioned above haha.

And not long after, today's dishes arrived!! Dongchimi bibim noodles and beef bone broth pork noodles🤍 The dongchimi bibim noodles come with this icy dongchimi broth floating on top! You pour in a bit of the broth and mix it together to eat.

Just mixing it up, that sweet-and-tangy smell rose up and made me want to dig in right away🤭

There's plenty of meat inside plus cucumber, and eating them together makes it even tastier! It was nicely spicy-tangy and delicious, so it went down easily! It was hot the day I went, and eating it on a hot day made it taste even better.

Why the beef bone broth is the highlight at Handam Guksu

Next up, my personal favorite! The beef bone broth pork noodles🤍🤍 I like thin noodles, and Handam Guksu's noodles were thin and chewy — I loved it!

And the beef bone broth here is a total kick!!!! It's savory and rich and packed with umami, so good I kept marveling as I ate it..!!!! If you like savory flavors, you have to try this!!!

The meat was sliced just the right thickness to eat with the noodles! The combo of meat and noodles was a match made in heaven..🤍

The fresh kimchi side dish served alongside was also delicious with the noodles! The broth is rich but not greasy, so I kept eating without stopping😆

Final verdict: is Handam Guksu worth it for noodles in Aewol?

I wanted lunch made of something you can only get in Jeju, so I searched for a good pork noodle restaurant, and it was even more delicious than I expected🤍 Both the bibim noodles and the pork noodles were delicious in their own ways, and I get why so many people come here!

The taste aside, it's near Aewol so it's easy to get to, parking is convenient, and the inside of the restaurant is clean and well put together, so there's no reason not to come!! If you're looking for a good noodle restaurant near Aewol, I recommend Handam Guksu Aewol Branch🫶🏻
