I stumbled on this Suwon roast chicken restaurant by chance while out on a date near Haenggung. It's a chicken place with a cozy brick interior!! For parking, you can use the public lot right next door.

12 hours in herbal marinade, 2 hours over a wood fire
This is a roast chicken restaurant that literally grills over firewood. It was fascinating to see stacks of firewood piled up out front haha. Here, the chicken is soaked in a variety of herbal ingredients and marinated for a whopping 12 hours before being grilled over oak. Good for your body and tasty too — best of both worlds! I got excited just thinking about tasting a chicken full of herbal aroma.

Floor 1 open-air feel, floor 2 window seats
I was surprised at how spacious and comfortable the place was, with plenty of seats. It's a standalone restaurant using both the 1st and 2nd floors. The 1st floor has open windows that give it an outdoor-tent feel, and the atmosphere is amazing >< Now that it's neither too hot nor too cold, you have to come here this season!
Deep in the back there was this cozy, sentimental seating area!!

A chicken restaurant with this much atmosphere, haha! It totally hit my taste. This would be perfect for a second date spot after a blind date if the mood's good ><
There are plenty of seats on the 2nd floor too, and apparently it fills up all the way there during peak hours haha. I came on a weekday so I got to enjoy it even more comfortably ><

The 2nd floor has full floor-to-ceiling windows. With the lighting out front added in, the vibe of this chicken place is incredible!
Haenggung Jangjak Hanbang Tongdak menu and prices
Now let me show you the menu.

From plain oak-fired chicken with nothing on it to seasoned, spicy fire chicken, corn cheese, and more — the menu is full of delicious options! There are also various add-on options that go great with the chicken~~ Dine-in and takeout prices are the same!

You can actually watch the chicken being grilled at the back of the restaurant, which made it feel even more trustworthy and fun.
Chickens grilling gently over the fire haha. Slow-roasted for a whopping 2 hours, all the excess fat drains out while the flavor stays deep and clean!
What the takeout order includes: 23,000-won chicken plus 8,000-won 1,000cc draft beer

I ordered takeout that day. It would've been nice to sit in the pretty restaurant and enjoy the outdoor-tent atmosphere, but since I had a driver with me I might not have been able to do chimaek, so I went for takeout instead! As you'll see below, the takeout quality was so excellent that I highly recommend it too!

Ta-da~~ I chose takeout so I could do chimaek at home like this, and it was such a good choice! The takeout quality was this good~~
I ordered the herbal oak-fired chicken for ₩23,000 and 1000cc of draft beer for ₩8,000. These days even franchise fried chicken costs this much, so getting an oak-fired chicken made with healthy ingredients at this price is a real bargain haha.

Pickled radish, two kinds of sauce, and even salt! They gave out the condiments generously for free, which was so nice!

They transferred the chicken onto a wide plate to make it easy to eat. The visual of the oak-fired chicken is amazing, right?! Grilled just right, it looked so delicious haha.

A visual that naturally calls for beer~~ I chose takeout because I wanted to do chimaek like this with my partner, and it was such a great choice.

Drumstick, breast and wings: how the chicken tastes
I love drumsticks the most!!! Eat the drumstick first before it gets cold haha. It's a big, hearty drumstick, so tearing into it is such a treat.

Dipping it in the sauce, the tender meat is truly amazing. The skin is crispy and the inside is juicy 🥹🥹 The best taste!!!!

I usually don't love breast meat, but even the breast here was tender and clean-tasting, so it was delicious. Thanks to being marinated with plenty of herbal ingredients, there's a subtle herbal aroma that lingers at the end — and that's the best part!

Dip it in mustard and it's so soft and tasty you barely notice it's breast meat.

Gotta enjoy the wings, which I love so much >< Crispy outside, juicy inside, done right~~ I had chicken as a late-night snack, but it felt less guilty somehow?!! It's not fried, so it's better for you haha.

The pickled radish and carrot that came with it were also tangy and went so well with the chicken haha. Both radish and carrot are good for you, so no guilt eating this as a late-night snack ><

The glutinous rice stuffed inside the chicken
The great thing about roast chicken is that there's sticky rice inside >< This Suwon restaurant, Haenggung Jangjak Hanbang Tongdak, is also packed full of sticky rice inside. I love this rice so much ><

Eating it alongside the chicken was out of this world delicious! The glossy sticky rice had such a chewy texture and a sweet, nutty flavor that was the best~~ It's rice packed with good-for-you ingredients like chestnuts and jujubes, so make sure to eat every last bit >< This is how I enjoyed the most delicious oak-fired roast chicken. If you're out and about near Haenggung, don't hesitate to stop by!
