On a day when I was craving a hot bowl of gukbap (soup with rice), I headed to Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk, which had just opened in Nokyang-dong, Uijeongbu.

It turns out Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk got its start back in 2017 in the sundae alley of Yongin Jungang Market. Cheoin-gu in Yongin has long sat along the route to old Hanyang (Seoul), so lots of travelers used to pass through and settle there for a while. The market that naturally formed in that spot became the birthplace of their sundaeguk recipe, and that's how the restaurant came to be what it is today.

Here's what I found — the sundaeguk itself, plus the atmosphere and menu of the place.

Where is Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Nokyang Branch, and is there parking?

Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Nokyang Branch sits on Dongil-ro in Uijeongbu, with an outdoor lot in front that fits about 10 cars.

The restaurant occupies the first floor of a standalone two-story building, and a large sign plus a standing signboard out front made it easy to spot.

Inside the Nokyang branch: private room and baby chairs

Since it had just opened on September 1, 2026, the place felt clean and fresh the moment I stepped in. The hall was pretty spacious too, with generous space between tables, so I could eat comfortably without feeling crowded.

There's a separate room too, which looked like a good option for family gatherings or group meals.

Near the entrance there was also a baby chair set up.

What's at the self-serve banchan corner

Off to one side there's a self-serve corner where you can freely help yourself to banchan (side dishes). Near the corner, on the way to the restroom, there were also disposable aprons available.

Spoons and chopsticks were already set on the tables, and if you needed a ladle or a small plate, you could grab one from next to the self-serve corner. Kids' spoons and forks were available there too, ready whenever needed.

Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk menu and prices

The menu splits into meal dishes and anju (drinking food). All the meal dishes were priced the same at 11,000 won, while the set that pairs gukbap with sundae came to 14,000 won. Choosing a large size adds 2,000 won, and switching to the spicy version adds 1,000 won.

For anju, there was head meat, native sundae, osori gamtu (pork stomach lining), and a drinking soup, with small at 19,000 won and large at 24,000 won. Chapsundae (glutinous sundae) and an assorted platter were also on offer.

Takeout orders and the 2,000 won discount

Uncooked take-out was available, and ordering take-out right after your meal earns you a 2,000 won discount.

They also run a review event offering free chapsundae, but in September 2026 — the opening event period — every customer got chapsundae regardless of whether they left a review.

Ordering the set brought out a neat basic spread first. I could freely grab more banchan from the self-serve corner whenever I wanted, which made things easy.

Each table also had dadaegi (spicy seasoning), salted shrimp, and salt ready so you could season the sundaeguk to your taste.

Grinding fresh sesame into the soup at your table

What stood out at Gyeongseong Sundaeguk was that you grind your own sesame at the table and add it in. Grinding it fresh brought out a nutty aroma and deepened the broth's flavor even more. Personally, I could really tell the difference once the sesame went in, so if you visit, I'd definitely recommend trying it with the freshly ground sesame.
