When I'm craving grilled fish, I'd rather go find a place that grills it well than do it myself at home. This time I headed to Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa in Seongsa-dong, Goyang.

Clean and tidy interior of Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa

You can enjoy a generous spread of grilled fish alongside warm sotbap in a clean, tidy space, so I wanted to recommend it to anyone hunting for a good restaurant in Seongsa-dong.

A clean dining room with easy parking

Walking in, the overall vibe was clean and well-organized, which made a great first impression. With a grilled fish place, you always worry your clothes might end up smelling, but the interior here was pretty comfortable, so I could relax and eat.

Comfortable seating area of the grilled fish restaurant

Best of all, parking was available. That made it easy to visit by car, and it seemed like a great spot for a family meal or lunch with parents in Seongsa-dong.

Ordering the 31,800 won grilled fish lunch special for two

Full table setup of the lunch set for two

That day we ordered the grilled fish lunch set for two at ₩31,800, and added the cabbage buckwheat pancake for ₩4,000 as a side. After ordering, the grilled fish came out as 2 flounder, 3 cutlassfish, and 1 Pacific cod.

Plate of flounder, cutlassfish, and Pacific cod

There were more kinds of fish and a bigger portion than I expected, so it was more than enough for two. I especially liked getting to try several types of fish at once.

Did the grilled fish taste fishy at all?

Honestly, the biggest worry with grilled fish is that distinct fishy taste. But the fish we ate that day genuinely had none of it.

Flaking off the nicely browned fish and putting it on rice, it was clean-tasting yet savory. The flounder was soft and mild, the cutlassfish was moist and nutty, and the Pacific cod had thick flesh that went great with rice.

Flaked grilled fish with a spoonful of rice

Each fish had a slightly different texture and flavor, which made it fun to try them one by one. I thought even people who avoid grilled fish because of the fishy taste could eat this without worry.

The sotbap that made the meal filling

Warm sotbap served for two in one pot

And the sotbap (hot pot rice) that came with the grilled fish was really satisfying. Eating warm rice together with the fish felt less like a quick meal and more like a proper Korean spread. After scooping out the rice, you can even enjoy the crispy bits left in the pot as a finish — so good! The sotbap is shared between two. We're huge eaters haha, so we added an extra bowl of rice. It seemed like a great fit for anyone looking for a filling lunch in Seongsa-dong.

Banchan refills at Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa

Refillable side dish spread

The grilled fish was great, but the banchan (side dishes) lineup was also a plus. Several side dishes come out together, and you can keep refilling whatever runs low, which made eating easy and stress-free.

They even had japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), which I love — nice! Fish alone can feel a bit plain, but with the side dishes the rice just kept going down. The staff were friendly all around too, so there was nothing uncomfortable about the meal. They brought things over right away when we needed them and handled refill requests kindly, so I finished the meal in a good mood.

Is the 4,000 won cabbage buckwheat pancake worth adding?

Side order of cabbage buckwheat pancake

The cabbage buckwheat pancake we ordered as a side worked better than expected. At ₩4,000 it's an easy add, and its clean flavor was a nice contrast to the grilled fish, good to nibble on in between bites.

The main dish portions were already plenty, so adding the pancake left us truly stuffed.
