Weekday lunch for two at ₩28,000: Seongsu Thai restaurant Thanon55

Here's my review of Thanon55, a genuinely great Thai spot in Seongsu that I walked into with zero expectations and left completely won over by the real Thai flavors ☺️

Honestly, this was the best pho I've had out of everything I ate in 2025-2026, and I'm saying this as a paying customer with very strong intent to go back !!! ♥️♥️ No question, I have to go again !!

Thanon55 hours, location and parking near Seongsu Station

Thanon55 is located at 16 Ttukseom-ro 9-gil, 1st floor, unit 203, Seongdong-gu, Seoul — a perfect spot to stop by while on a date around Seongsu-dong. After eating, I'd recommend a stroll along the Han River or a visit to Ttukdo Market.

Inside Thanon55: atmosphere and seating

Most of the staff here are Thai locals, which already had me excited, and the interior really leans into that authentic Thai feel too — it genuinely felt like I'd hopped over to Thailand for a bit.

I visited on a weekday for lunch and saw a lot of what looked like Seongsu-dong office workers haha. Most of the seating is tables for 2-4 people, and the space was clean and pleasant, so it was a comfortable place to eat.

What's on the Thanon55 menu?

There were a lot of unusual dishes I hadn't seen at typical Thai restaurants. I wanted to try them all~~ but after much deliberation, I just went with the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked menu items.

Mu thod curry S, 15,000 won: why is it the No. 1 dish?

I'm told mu thod curry is a Thai-style dish of seasoned deep-fried pork. Honestly I had no idea what mu thod curry even was, but since it was the No. 1 dish, I just ordered it !! I was curious how a dish I'd never tried before would taste, and one bite in, I understood exactly why it's ranked first.

Thinly sliced pork jowl, deep-fried until crispy and piled generously with fried garlic — that's the mu thod curry. Crispy outside, juicy inside, with all of the pork jowl's signature savoriness coming through clearly; every bite had me just gasping in awe...

Eating it together with the curry was really delicious, but personally, dipping it deep in the chili sauce along with the fried garlic was the real winning move ㅠㅠㅠ

This curry sauce is genuinely the real kick — total rice thief. There's a subtle hit of spice mingled with a nutty flavor, sort of like sesame, that kept me reaching for more. The mu thod curry was memorable enough on its own that I have no choice but to come back to Thanon55. Once it was gone, I was just left wanting more mu thod curry... maybe I should've just ordered the large size ^^

What does the 13,000 won gamjatang pho taste like?

I figured it'd taste like Korean gamjatang (pork bone stew) with pho noodles thrown in, but apparently it's actually a genuinely popular dish sold in Thailand.

Going in expecting Korean-style gamjatang, it tasted way more distinctive than I imagined. Rather than gamjatang's usual punchy intensity, it was a bit lighter and cleaner, making it easy to enjoy without feeling heavy.

There was a generous amount of tender, well-cooked meat clinging to the bone, and it paired really well with the pho noodles. A familiar combo of gamjatang and pho, but with that distinct Thai flavor layered in, it felt fresh and had its own charm.

Is Thanon55 in Seongsu worth it? Final verdict

I feel like the moment Thanon55 gets featured somewhere, I won't be able to eat here anymore because of the lines ㅠㅠ So before that happens, I'd better come back often and master the rest of the menu too. I confidently recommend Thanon55 as a true hidden gem in Seongsu-dong, or honestly just a genuinely delicious Thai restaurant.
