Suwon night festival last order, arugula burrata pizza: The European
In short
The European Haenggung Main Branch is a wood-fired pizza restaurant at the entrance of Haengridan-gil in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, one minute from the Hwaseong Haenggung ticket booth. On a night crowded with the media art show festival, the writer ordered the arugula burrata pizza for 27,000 won and a cola for 3,000 won — oak-fired dough topped with fresh arugula and a whole burrata, eaten almost like a salad. Light and clean rather than greasy, The European Haenggung Main Branch works well for a night-out meal in Haenggung-dong.

Where is The European Haenggung Main Branch? One minute from the Hwaseong Haenggung ticket booth
The European Haenggung Main Branch is a wood-fired pizza place one minute from the Hwaseong Haenggung ticket booth, right in front of the Hwaseong Haenggung public parking lot. A great spot for a family outing or a date! I'd gone to visit Hwaseong Haenggung. It happened to be festival season, with a laser media art show running at night, so it was absolutely packed with people!

The area with quiet stone-walled alleys, cute cafés, and good restaurants in Suwon's Haenggung-dong is called Haengni-dan-gil. ~ri-dan-gil~ ~dan-gil~ we really love naming streets like that in Korea haha. Haengni-dan-gil has so many pretty spots that just walking the street at night when the lights come on already feels good, but eating something delicious doubles it.

Last time I went to a wood-fired pizza spot with Gona, and ever since then I've been craving wood-fired pizza nonstop..... Wood-fired pizza can be delivered too, but eating it at the restaurant is just different haha.
Inside The European Haenggung Main Branch: 84 seats and the night-time mood

Just like the name The European suggests, it really does feel European inside haha. (I've never actually been to Europe.)

The interior is a little dark, but the soft lighting makes it a good atmosphere for a date.

The soul of wood-fired pizza is how well the dough is fermented, right? A properly fermented pizza dough tastes good even without toppings. Is that thing a fermentation fridge????? We sat at a table where you can see clearly right into the fridge.

Seating extends all the way to the back, for a total of 84 seats, apparently.
QR code menu at The European: how much is a pizza?
The European Haenggung Main Branch doesn't hand out a paper menu — you scan the QR code at your table to see it. Just order off that.

I didn't mean to capture the entire menu, but somehow I ended up with screenshots of all of it, so here it is. I'd gone based on someone else's review, and the prices seemed to have gone up a little since then?! Wood-fired pizzas run a bit on the pricier side. There's no size option, and it comes pre-cut into 4 slices.
The order: arugula burrata pizza, 27,000 won

- Arugula burrata pizza ₩27,000
- Cola ₩3,000
Since they're open until 21:30, you have to order by 21:00 to still get to eat. The pizza came out faster than expected. Looking at other tables, it seemed like nobody just orders pizza alone — everyone pairs it with pasta or steak.

I love arugula and burrata cheese, so I was so, so excited for this >_< The visuals were amazing too — with wood-fired pizza, the edge of the dough puffs up like that, which seems to be a sign the dough fermented well haha.

Maybe because the oven runs so hot, the AC inside was blasting like crazy lol. It was seriously cold... I could hear the two tables next to us saying it was way too cold too, but nobody in our 20s-30s crowd dared to actually say something about adjusting the AC haha lol.

At The European Haenggung branch, instead of a pizza server, they bring out tongs lol. Tongs for pizza! I guess it makes sense — moving the pizza tends to send arugula scattering everywhere, so tongs are actually convenient for grabbing it.

The burrata cheese comes out whole, so you have to divide it yourselves. The pizza itself gets fired right in front of you, but the arugula and burrata are placed on raw, unheated — so watch out, they're cold!

How does the arugula burrata pizza taste?
It's less like eating a typical pizza and more like eating a fresh, tangy arugula-burrata salad piled on well-fermented, chewy, clean-tasting wood-fired bread! Instead of a greasy, heavy pizza, it feels like enjoying a clean, upscale brunch! Not heavy at all, not overwhelming haha.

The charm of wood-fired pizza >.< that smoky aroma unique to an oak-fired oven is something a regular oven pizza can never replicate. You can see charred marks around the crust edge — apparently that's not burnt, it's the signature fire-kissed mark of authentic Neapolitan pizza. In Italy they apparently call it leoparding, or cornicione? haha.
Even though it's fired in a wood oven, it feels like eating a healthy arugula burrata salad on a pizza!! Not greasy at all, so I feel like it won't make you gain weight haha. Since the pizza and everything else looked so good, this place would make a great pick for a date in Haenggung-dong!!
