Affogato finish at a Hakdong shabu-shabu buffet, Yeosu: Tongkeun Shabu
In short
Tongkeun Shabu is an all-you-can-eat beef shabu-shabu restaurant with a salad bar on the 3rd floor of the Subway building in Hakdong, near Yeosu City Hall. Visiting with a friend, the writer ordered the basic broth and worked through pork neck and beef belly, smoked duck, mala kkanpunggi (crispy fried chicken), mango salad and rice paper wraps, then made an affogato with the coffee and ice cream at the end. A good-value meal in Hakdong, Yeosu where you can keep going back for refills without feeling self-conscious.

Hello! It's your cheerful and bold food blogger. I was craving something delicious and thought of Tongkeun Shabu, a shabu-shabu spot near Yeosu City Hall, so I went to check it out.
I want to introduce Tongkeun Shabu, a spot locals in Yeosu genuinely recommend for hot broth and unlimited fresh beef. It's in the busy Hakdong area near Yeosu City Hall, so it's easy to get to, and the spacious dining room makes it a popular choice for family meals or group gatherings. I came out on a date with a friend after a while — feeling good!!

Tongkeun Shabu menu and how the buffet works
Tongkeun Shabu offers high-quality shabu-shabu and a premium salad bar, both unlimited, at a reasonable price.

As soon as you sit down, they take your broth order. We just went with the basic broth. Next time I'll try a different flavor!
Inside Tongkeun Shabu: made for family meals
The interior has a wood-toned look, both comfortable and stylish. The tables are spaced generously and there are plenty of group seats, so you can eat comfortably. They even had plenty of high chairs for babies, which was a nice touch. On weekend peak hours it can get busy with a wait, so I'd recommend booking ahead if you want a window seat or are coming as a group. My friend said groups come here a lot.
Salad bar rules to follow at Tongkeun Shabu

All the dishes are made by hand, so they take time to prepare. Please only take what you can eat, for the sake of the next person. These dishes are made with care, so please don't let them go to waste. That's really true. Don't get greedy, just take what you'll eat... I'm reflecting on this. Some things looked so good I took too much and had to leave a little. I got too full. I should've just gone back for more instead...

Shabu-shabu restaurant or buffet? The Tongkeun Shabu salad bar
The real reason Tongkeun Shabu is so loved is the side dishes. There's a sushi zone where they hand you fresh pieces on the spot, chicken that's crispy and delicious enough to rival a dedicated fried chicken shop — a must-try regulars' pick — plus pizza, dakbal (spicy chicken feet), smoked duck, jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles), fried rice, cream pasta, yukhoe (beef tartare), and pork ribs. There's really a huge variety. Lots of kid-friendly options too, so it's easy for parents to bring their little ones. I couldn't eat everything, so I just took what I liked. I wish I had a bigger stomach... haha. I didn't manage to photograph everything either — go try the rest yourself at Tongkeun Shabu, the all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu spot near Yeosu City Hall!
Unlimited pork neck, beef belly and rice paper wrap vegetables
Don't worry about meat quality just because it's all-you-can-eat. If you want a lean texture, go for the pork neck; if you want something rich, soft and savory, go for the beef belly — take your pick. I found the lean pork neck really delicious. My friend loved the smoked duck so much he had two plates... haha. Beyond the shabu vegetables like bok choy, napa cabbage, and mushrooms, there were also fresh vegetables perfect for rice paper wraps, all set up perfectly. As someone who loves vegetables, this was a big win!!

Is this a chicken restaurant or what? The mala dakgangjeong (spicy crispy chicken) was delicious too, and all the meats were exactly my taste... haha. The mango salad was great too. Ah, so good~~

All set!! Let's eat~~ Dip the rice paper in water... and wrap it up with a variety of vegetables~~

Ah, so tasty. Dipped in ponzu sauce, it's just amazing.

Being all-you-can-eat, it's great that you can go back for more without feeling self-conscious. The combination of beef and vegetables is clean and deliciously light.

Three shabu-shabu dipping sauces at Tongkeun Shabu
There are three sauces to dip your shabu-shabu in: ponzu/soy sauce, chili sauce, and peanut/sesame sauce. Take whichever suits your taste.

Dessert zone: chocolate fondue and a DIY affogato
There's a full dessert spread too. Kids absolutely love that chocolate fondue... I made myself an affogato with the coffee and ice cream... hehe.
