Yeongtong sushi restaurant with cooked options: Teukbyeolhan Chobap

In short

Teukbyeolhan Chobap is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant on Cheongmyeong-nam-ro near Yeongtong Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Usually a stop with the kids, Teukbyeolhan Chobap worked just as well for a lunch with a mom who avoids raw fish: salmon sushi and grilled scallops came off the rail, and anything missing from the belt was ordered on the spot and arrived freshly made. Teukbyeolhan Chobap is an easy choice for parents who skip sashimi and for children alike.

I went back to the Yeongtong Station branch of Teukbyeolhan Chobap (특별한초밥), a place I stop by whenever I'm craving sushi near Yeongtong Station. I usually go with my kids, but this time I went with just my mom for a change. Since I'd always been happy with the variety and easy dining experience when going with the kids, I wanted to bring my mom along too.

A Yeongtong lunch spot near the station

At Teukbyeolhan Chobap you can sit down and grab whatever sushi you want right away, which makes it great for a quick lunch. The area around Yeongtong Station has a lot of offices, hospitals, and shops, so plenty of people are looking for somewhere to eat during their lunch break. Not having to spend ages deciding on a menu is a big plus.

Sushi keeps coming along the conveyor belt, and if there's nothing you want you can just order it directly, so the wait isn't long either. Especially when time is tight, like during lunch hour, a conveyor-belt sushi place like this is definitely more convenient than a restaurant where you order and then wait forever.

Is Teukbyeolhan Chobap comfortable for solo diners?

One of the perks of a conveyor-belt sushi place is that it's not awkward at all to visit alone. You can pick only as much as you want to eat, without the pressure of having to order multiple dishes, so it's fine for solo dining too.

It felt like a comfortable atmosphere for grabbing a simple solo lunch near Yeongtong Station, or for dropping by alone whenever sushi comes to mind. Being able to pick only the sushi you feel like eating without worrying about anyone else is part of the charm of conveyor-belt sushi, I think.

Various kinds of sushi go around on the conveyor belt at Teukbyeolhan Chobap, so it's easy to grab whatever you're in the mood for. I usually stick to my favorites like salmon sushi or grilled scallops, and that day too, once I started picking bits and pieces, the plates stacked up fast.

Best of all, since they get a lot of customers, the sushi doesn't feel like it's been circling the belt forever — it feels like it's constantly being made fresh.

What a mom who avoids raw fish ate here

My mom isn't really a fan of raw fish or sashimi in general. She can't eat yukhoe (raw beef) and doesn't like sliced raw fish either.

Sushi that's easy to eat even if you don't like raw fish

So honestly I was a little worried whether it'd be okay to bring her to a sushi restaurant, but once she actually tried it, she said it was tastier than she expected.

She especially liked that the sushi was made and put out right away, which gave it a fresh feeling.

You might think conveyor-belt sushi means the plates sit going around for a long time, but this place gets a lot of customers and the turnover is quick, so there was almost none of that feeling.

Sushi received right after ordering

It's also great that if there isn't sushi you want on the belt, you can order what you'd like and have it made fresh on the spot. Telling them what you'd like and getting it made right away meant we got to eat warm, freshly made dishes, which I really liked.

Good with kids, good with parents

Whenever I went with my kids before, I thought it was convenient that there were dishes like shrimp tempura or sweet shrimp sushi that they could eat. This time, going with my mom, I realized it's also a good spot to visit with parents.

Even if someone doesn't like raw fish, there are options like cooked sushi, tempura, or udon (noodle soup) to choose from, and you can order whatever sushi you want made fresh, so it was easy to eat according to everyone's preferences.
