Tank-aged pork neck and raw galmaegisal at Hamdon Baegot, Siheung

In short

Hamdon Baegot is an aged Korean pork restaurant on the 1st floor of Purple-dong, Avenue France, in Siheung's Baegot neighborhood, Gyeonggi. I ordered the 504-aged special pork neck, raw galmaegisal (skirt meat), and cross-aged pork belly one serving each, and staff grilled everything start to finish for me, with a hearty spread that came with free bone soup, fresh minari, and over 10 side dishes. Between the tank-aged pork neck's juicy tenderness and the free parking, this was a fully satisfying Baegot barbecue spot.

In the height of summer, grilling meat in front of a hot pan felt like a bit much, so I'd been avoiding Korean BBQ places! But now that the weather's turning cooler and my body seems to be craving some energy, I've been really wanting that juicy, meaty flavor.

So I went looking for a place with great taste, clean facilities, full air conditioning, and most importantly, staff who grill the meat perfectly from start to finish — and I ended up at 'Hamdon Baegot,' a Siheung restaurant in the Baegot central commercial district that everyone's been talking about!

True to its name — a play on the Chinese characters for 'falling for meat' (陷豚) — created to share the deep impression the owner had eating pork belly in Hamdeok, Jeju as a kid, the table setting alone was moving: over 10 neat side dishes plus complimentary bone soup and minari. Let me go through it honestly and in detail~!

Where to Park Near Baegot Central Commercial District

Parking is usually the first worry at the Baegot central commercial district, but Hamdon Baegot makes it easy since you can use the free underground parking lot at Avenue France Purple-dong. The parking area is spacious and clean, so even new drivers shouldn't feel stressed. Just tell the staff your license plate number when paying and they'll register you for free parking.

A Modern Exterior with a Dol Hareubang Welcome

Hamdon is located right on the 1st floor of Purple-dong at Avenue France, the main commercial complex in Baegot, so it's easy to spot. I visited on a Friday evening and there was a waiting line — it's clearly a hot spot! Unlike a typical Korean BBQ place, the exterior has a modern, stylish feel.

True to its roots tracing back to Hamdeok, Jeju, a cute dol hareubang (stone grandfather statue) greets you at the entrance, giving a little thrill like you've arrived on Jeju Island.

Pork Neck and Belly Aged in a Fish Tank

The first thing that caught my eye at the entrance was the meat actually aging inside a real fish tank!

Apparently aging the meat in a water tank that keeps a consistent temperature minimizes temperature swings and prevents juice loss. Seeing the thick cuts of meat aging right there in the tank with my own eyes made my curiosity and trust in the quality and flavor skyrocket before I'd even sat down!

Full AC and Amazing Ventilation!

The moment I stepped inside, cool full air conditioning greeted me. There was none of the usual Korean BBQ heat or stuffiness, and the ventilation system worked so well there was barely any smoke or oil smell. The floor wasn't sticky at all either, so I could eat comfortably, and the tables are spaced generously, making it perfect for gatherings or work dinners.

Hygienic Table Setting

They gave us individually wrapped utensils, premium wet wipes, and even nutty-tasting hutgae tea (raisin tree tea), which made us feel pampered. The tableware was also spotless, making this a great spot for a date or a gathering.

Neat Side Dishes and Dipping Sauces

Once you sit down, the table fills up with a generous spread of neat, hearty side dishes.

From radish kimchi, white kimchi, and green onion kimchi to chilled radish salad, there's also shiitake mushroom jang, wasabi, ssamjang (dipping sauce), chili peppers, garlic, salted anchovy sauce, and even a special sauce made just for the galmaegisal — endless combinations to dip into.

We ordered extra lettuce wraps through the tablet — side dishes that aren't served upfront are listed there too, so it's worth checking. You can also easily request extra side dishes through the tablet, which is really efficient.

Amazing Freebie! Free Bone Soup

The bone soup that comes standard was so good it was hard to believe it was free. The big bones came loaded with meat, and my partner was happily picking the bones clean before the meat on the grill was even done. Putting ssamjang on top of the meat was especially delicious. It's soft enough that the meat just falls right off — a proper bone soup.

Fresh Minari Also Comes Standard

Fresh minari (water dropwort), which pairs perfectly with meat, comes included. It's delicious lightly grilled on the pan and wrapped with the meat, but as the sign suggested, wrapping it around the meat and dipping it in gochujang gave great texture and a lovely aroma. Other places usually charge ₩4,000–5,000 for this, so getting it free is such a great deal.

An Overwhelming Full Spread

The food we ordered came out quickly. Once everything was set, the table for four was completely full. We hadn't ordered that much, but with all the complimentary sides, it turned into a really generous spread.

Exceptional Quality Korean Pork

We wanted to try each type of meat, so we ordered one serving of each, and overall the quality was excellent. Even my partner, who doesn't usually go for aged meat, was raving about the quality and got really excited.

Super Convenient Grilling Service

Once the meat arrived and the grill heated up, a staff member grilled it all with really practiced skill. They grilled it so smoothly that I just got to sit back and watch, haha. They kept such close attention the whole time that there was no chance for me to grab the tongs myself.

Watching the meat grill alongside the salted anchovy sauce and king oyster mushrooms made my mouth water, haha.

Once the meat was cooked, they handed out individual tongs that are easy to grip. I'd used these at another BBQ place before and remembered how convenient they were. As expected of a Baegot favorite, they had them here too. They also set aside a clean space for the cooked meat, making everything so easy to eat. They even cut the king oyster mushrooms into bite-sized pieces, haha.

504-Aged Special Pork Neck: The Power of Tank Aging

I'm usually a 'pork neck person' who orders pork neck first at any Korean BBQ spot, and the moment I took my first bite, I understood the power of tank aging! Rich, tender juices burst across my entire mouth — it was so well aged that there was zero dryness, just incredibly soft.

The meaty aroma was wonderfully savory with no gamey smell at all, so even pork belly fans who normally aren't into pork neck would fall for this tender texture without question. Eating it with tingly wasabi, shiitake mushroom jang, or minari gives you a really varied range of flavors. I love wrapping meat in lettuce, so I made sure to do that generously, haha.

Chewy, Textured Raw Galmaegisal

It had been a while since I'd had raw galmaegisal, and dipping the grilled meat lightly in Hamdon's special garlic sauce was an insanely good match — the savory meaty flavor and the umami-packed sauce worked so well together. I kept dipping into that sauce so much that my partner got curious and asked if it was really that good, haha. The more you chew, the more that clean, chewy texture unique to galmaegisal comes through — a great special treat.

Thick Pork Belly with the Perfect Lean-to-Fat Ratio

For round two, we had the pork belly. It was such a thick cut that it must not have been easy to grill, but the expert staff cooked it to a perfectly golden brown.

The pork belly has almost an even split of lean meat and fat, giving it an outstanding chewy texture with every bite. If you're someone who enjoys the flavor of the fatty parts, you'll absolutely fall for it without a doubt — it carries that nutty fat flavor unique to Jeju pork. Dip it in the salty simmered anchovy sauce or wrap it with the tingly green onion kimchi for a rich, satisfying taste without any greasiness.

The king oyster mushrooms were also really delicious — chewy with a nice burst of texture, honestly the best garnish there is, haha.

Kimchi Jjigae with Whole Tofu

The kimchi jjigae is such a stunning visual that just looking at the menu made me order it almost hypnotically. A big, plump block of tofu sits whole right on top. You can put the pot on the induction burner at your table and keep it simmering as you eat.

Maybe because it uses domestic kimchi, the broth was spicy and deep without any muddiness. It's so packed with meat and tofu that you'll want to add a bowl of rice the moment it arrives. Mixing the soft whole tofu, well-cooked kimchi, and tender pork into your rice is clean and absolutely perfect!

Red Yeast Rice

Hamdon's steamed rice is really special — they add red yeast mold, which makes the rice red. It's supposed to help lower bad cholesterol levels, which is a nice bonus. It's pretty, healthy, and above all, essential for wrapping in lettuce or eating with the kimchi jjigae, haha.
